Design layouts as part of a creative art team, working on the main weekly publication as well as other platforms, including special interest magazines.
Work closely with the editorial team to ensure that visuals support and enhance the story for a cohesive overall design
Work within tight deadlines while maintaining high standards of work
Conduct final checks on layouts and export layouts to print ready PDFs
Assist the art director on any other aspects of the magazine layout and design, such as briefing, retouching, making PDFs and liaising with the factory
Ensure publication complies visually and in design with international standards.
Skills & competencies
Tertiary qualification in graphic design
At least five years’ experience in production and layout with a portfolio of relevant work
Be curious about design and visual storytelling
Show a keen interest in understanding the target market of the publication
Proficiency in relevant computer packages and design software – InDesign knowledge is a must
Be able to communicate effectively – verbally and on email where required
Display a high level of creativity and have a solutions-based approach to tricky designs
Be keen to work as part of a team, working under extreme pressure and with intense deadlines
Be flexible, adaptable, and able to work on various projects related to the brand as and when required
