    Lecturer/Senior Lecturer

    The Department of Private Law, within the Faculty of Law, invites applications for appointment to the level of Senior Lecturer / Lecturer to commence employment soonest.
    The Department intends to strengthen research and teaching across a number of areas of the private law curricula: Succession Law; Property Law; Private Law: Systems and Context; Unjustified Enrichment; and Legal Writing.

    We wish to appoint applicants who are academic leaders, or have the potential to be academic leaders, to be part of the Law Faculty, which values a critical and comparative approach to the study of the law.

    Requirements:
    For Lecturer:

    • LLB degree and a strong academic record. A Master’s and PhD will be advantageous
    • Teaching experience will be an advantage.
    • Previous publications will be an advantage.

    For Senior Lecturer:

    • LLB and Master’s degrees and a strong academic record. A PhD will be advantageous
    • Teaching experience at postgraduate level will be an advantage.
    • Evidence of ability to effectively supervise academic research, including postgraduate research.
    • A consistent record of publications appropriate to the level of Senior Lecturer.

    Responsibilities:

    • Teaching courses offered by the Department of Private Law as required by the Department.
    • Maintaining a research profile and publication output commensurate for level of appointment.
    • Contributing to Faculty and Department activities and administration responsibilities appropriate to the level of appointment.

    The annual remuneration packages for 2022, including benefits for the respective levels are as follows:
    Lecturer: R 885 924
    Senior Lecturer: R1 065 796
