    Maintenance Technician - Brits

    Role Purpose

    • Syngenta Brits FF&P Plant requires services of a Maintenance Technician- Electrical, Control and Instrumentation. This role reports directly to Engineering manager, with other maintenance technicians and planner as peers.
    • Maintenance Technician- Electrical, Control and Instrumentation at Brits FF&P site is key in overseeing the installation, maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of electrical, instrumentation, control and automation systems on Site. 
    • The incumbent may be required to do standby and overtime work when required.

    Accountabilities

    Safety 

    • Accountable for enforcing safe work practices and procedures in the Engineering Department including performing Preventative Maintenance activities, safety audits, safety inspections and daily workplace examinations.  
    • Adhere and Conform to all Syngenta HSEQ and housekeeping standards.
    • Approach all aspect of the work being performed with safety as the highest priority.
    • Identify and mitigate electrical and controls hazards to maintain a safe working environment.

    Maintenance – work related assignment.

    • Ensure the implementation of maintenance strategies and procedures for instrumentation and automation systems. 
    • Perform maintenance tasks, such as inspections, calibrations, and repairs in accordance with applicable codes and engineering standards.
    • Install, maintain, and repair instrumentation and control systems, equipment, and components in accordance with relevant codes, standards, and safety procedures.
    • Conduct regular inspections to identify potential issues and perform preventive maintenance tasks to ensure optimal system performance.

    Root Cause analysis on breakdown and machine defects

    • Lead troubleshooting efforts to resolve instrumentation and automation systems issues on site
    • Utilize advanced diagnostic tools and techniques to identify problems, analyse data, and implement effective solutions.
    • Collaborate with other team members to resolve complex electrical and control  issues to ensure minimal downtime.

    Electrical, Instrumentation and Control System’s Integration (incl OT Networks)

    • Oversee and participate in the installation, configuration, and integration of instrumentation and automation systems, including sensors, controllers, transmitters, actuators, and associated equipment. 
    • Ensure proper system functionality and compatibility in line with Syngenta standard

    Control and Automation system quality Control and Testing 

    • Execute comprehensive testing plans and procedures for instrumentation and automation systems. 
    • Perform in-depth system tests, verify performance, and document results. 
    • Lead efforts to address any issues and ensure compliance with project specifications.

    Document Control and reporting 

    • Ensure accurate and detailed documentation of all activities, including installation procedures, maintenance records, calibration reports,
    • Adhere to electrical codes, regulations, and safety standards while performing all tasks.

    Work Execution as per PM and Scheduled Work Order Priority(Maximo) 

    • On time completion of Work Order into CMMS system (Maximo System):
    • Accurate data capturing regarding Mean Time between Failures (MTBF) and Mean Time to Repairs (MTTR))

    Spare Management: Ensure all spares used are recorded and are correctly as drawn out of stores;

    • Assist in the specifications, procurement, and quality control of required / refurbished / repaired equipment.

    Execute Management of Change (MOC)

    • Modifications to equipment as assigned.

    Team work and collaboration: with other maintenance employees 

    • Coaches and develops the engineering skills of other maintenance and operational staff

    Qualifications

    Knowledge, Skills and Experience

    • Critical Knowledge
    • Minimum N3 Electrical Engineering Qualified Maintenance Electrician with passed Trade Test or Nat Diploma with (Electrical or Control and Instrumentation Engineering).
    • Understanding advance electronics, instrumentation (sensors, counters, and temp controllers) and controls
    • Understanding of System Instrumented Functions (SIFs) and System Instrumented System (SIS) would be advantage
    • Electrical wiring diagrams 3 Phase and 1 Phase electrically driven machinery 
    • Working knowledge of PLC (include Programming) and AC and DC Drives.
    • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in the maintenance of medium to large electrical, control and instrumentation systems in Chemical industry.  
    • Understanding of Work Management Process experience (Maintenance Work order process of part kitting, planning, scheduling and execution)
    • accurate troubleshooting of electrical or control problems
    • Experience in Robotics, Fill and Pack lines will be added advantage
    • Computer literate, proficient in Excel, Outlook, Work and CMMS systems (eg SAP PM/ Maximo or any other similar systems)
    • Knowledge of industrial parts, tools and equipment. 
    • Organized and systems orientated.
    • Ability to Work with minimal supervision.
    • Ability to work extended hours and/or on standby

    Critical skills

    • Strong commitment to Safety and Quality delivery, processes and initiatives eg MOCs, Risk Assessments and Root cause analysis and  
    • Problem solving and diagnostic skills
    • Understanding electrical, Control, Instrumentation and automation technologies
    • Teamwork and Collaboration

    • Material management and ability to use CMMS for work scheduling and data capturing.
