    Medical Laboratory Technologist

    The University of Cape Town Lung Institute requires applications for a Medical Laboratory Technologist* on a Fixed Term Contract to be based within the Red Cross Children’s Hospital laboratory (RCCH). The post will support a busy research laboratory, be responsible for processing and storage of samples across a range of research studies, ensuring quality control for all laboratory specimens and processes and have oversight of laboratory equipment.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Qualified Medical Technologist with minimum of 3 years laboratory experience.
    • Registration with HPCSA.
    • Basic Computer skills and data base management (knowledge of Freezerworks)
    • Must be able to work as part of a team.
    • GCP and GCLP certified.
    • Must have good organizational skills.

    Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

    • Ensuring appropriate processing of specimens in the laboratories.
    • Computer data entry.
    • Manage database with samples (freezerworks).
    • Monitor and Maintain equipment.
    • Waste management.
    • Maintain records.
    • General administrative tasks.
    • Quality control.
    • Maintain CPD.
    • Assisting with logistics regarding appropriate collection, transport and storage of specimens.
    • Performing relevant scientific experiments in line with needs of specific research projects.
    • Assisting with the development of relevant SOPs.
    • Assisting the data team with tasks within the unit.
    • Supporting the clinical team with in-field operations whenever required.
    • Other tasks as assigned.

    Additional Information:

    • 12-month Fixed Term Contract
    • Full-Time (40 hours per week; Monday to Friday)
