Network Administrator I at Shoprite Group of Companies

Purpose of the Job    

• The purpose of the Network Administrator I is to provide foundational network administration and support services for the organisation’s network infrastructure.
• This role works under the guidance of the Network Administrator Lead, assisting with routine network configurations, monitoring, and troubleshooting to ensure stability, security, and optimal performance.
• The role supports compliance with organizational policies and security standards while contributing to reliable network services across the business.

Job Objectives    

Network Monitoring & Maintenance

• Monitor network performance and report issues to senior administrators.
• Respond to network alerts and resolve standard incidents within agreed service levels.
• Support routine maintenance activities to ensure network stability.

Configuration & Implementation

• Implement basic network configurations under supervision.
• Participate in testing and deployment of network solutions as directed by senior administrators.

Troubleshooting & Support

• Assist in diagnosing and resolving network problems, escalating complex issues to senior staff.
• Provide first-level support for connectivity and performance issues.

Compliance & Security

• Ensure adherence to security standards and organizational policies during all network activities.
• Document network changes, incidents, and resolutions for audit and compliance purposes.

Collaboration & Coordination

• Work closely with IT teams and vendors to execute tasks related to network upgrades and installations.
• Support site surveys and basic diagnostic activities under guidance.

Qualifications    

• Diploma or certificate in IT networking or equivalent – (essential).
• Entry-level certifications such as CompTIA A , N , or Cisco CCNA – (essential).

Experience    

• 2 years’ experience in network administration or IT support or similar – (essential).

Knowledge and Skills    

Basic knowledge of: 

• Network cabling and hardware.
• LAN/WAN concepts.
• TCP/IP fundamentals.
• Network monitoring tools.
