    Occupational Health Nurse Practitioner (P002762)

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Occupational Health Practitioner:

    • Administration and management responsibilities
    • Implement an Occupational Health Programme
    • Support the conduct of relevant occupational hygiene surveys from an occupational medicine perspective.
    • Conduct and report on ad hoc issue-based risk assessments and building inspections on campus.
    • Conduct medical surveillance in accordance with the relevant legislation (OHS Act) and Health Risk Assessments
    • Perform medical evaluations including biological monitoring as determined by the medical surveillance programme
    • Evaluate medical surveillance results, consult and determine a plan of action and refer as required
    • Identity and report on trends and advise on preventative and/or corrective measures
    • Assist with employee training related to Occupational Health risks/hazards and correct use of PPE
    • Counsel employees, liaise with and refer to HR and other agencies, where indicated
    • Follow company COID procedure, including initial management, reporting and follow-up of injury on duty cases.
    • The application of healthcare and occupational health legislation
    • Compile reports, as required
    • Keep medical records in accordance with legislation
    • Compile monthly management report
    • Responsible for vaccination drives in the workplace

    Minimum requirements

    • A Bachelor's degree or an Advanced Diploma in Nursing Science (NQF Level 7).
    • A Diploma in Occupational Health Care (NQF Level 6).
    • A Diploma in Health Care Management (NQF Level 6).
    • A Certificate in Audiometry.
    • A Certificate in Spirometry.
    • A Medical Dispensing qualification.
    • Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) (proof of registration must be provided).
    • A minimum of five (5) years' relevant experience in Occupational Health Care.

    ADDED ADVANTAGE:

    • Registration with the South African Society of Occupational Health Nursing Practitioners (SASOHN).

    KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

    • Effective knowledge of the use of medical equipment and apparatus.
    • Computer literacy in Word, Excel and Power Point, as well as e-mails.
    • Good communication skills, verbally and in writing in Afrikaans and English.
    • Competency in Vision screening, Audiometry and Spirometry.

    BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:

    • The ability to work independently and make independent decisions
    • Effective knowledge of health legislation
    • Problem solving skills
    • Effective conflict management skills
    • The ability to maintain good interpersonal relations
    • Must be able to work efficiently under pressure
    • The ability to be punctual
    • Demonstration of language proficiency in order to function optimally in the various multilingual environment of the NWU
    • The ability to function effectively in an academic as well as a student environment
    • Good service delivery to the satisfaction of clients.
