    Occupational Safety Practitioner (106383)

    Short Description / Purpose of Job

    To execute the Occupational Safety programme, facilitate the management and assurance within the business value chain in a risk-based, proactive manner directed by the One Sasol SHE Excellence Approach.

    Recruitment Description / Key Accountabilities

    • Planning and execution
    • Execute shutdown and other issue-based safety plans.
    • Support business in establishing and tracking of business Safety objectives and targets.
    • Facilitate the implementation of area-specific Safety Improvement initiatives and strategies and evaluate effectiveness thereof.
       

    SHE Risk Assessment and Management

    • Facilitate the identification of Occupational safety hazards and risks, key undesirable events and the associated preventive and corrective controls.
    • Conduct daily assurance on key undesirable events(KUE) critical controls and critical tasks in the plant and non-operational areas.
    •  Conduct inspections and safety audits (e.g. Logbook audits, lock-out audits, legal appointment audits, insurance engineer’s audits, permit to work (PTW) audits, task risk assessment (TRA) and task risk identification checklist (TRIC) etc.
    •  Identify non-conformances (including incidents) and conduct near miss and incident  investigations, identify root-causes and the identification of personal, workplace and organizational factors for these incidents
    • Monitor and respond proactively to hazards in the workplace
    • Conduct risk-based assurance audits with focus on group and critical controls
    • Participate in the roll out of the Safety Improvement Plan and report updates as required. Participate in the respective forums Facilitate safety discussions (toolbox talks, safety meetings or stand-downs)
    • Participate and give inputs during all risk assessments sessions including potential deviation analysis (PDA’s).
    • Participate and ensure successful implementation of Natref Service Provider management program.

    Systems, processes and technology

    • Support implementation of relevant SHE management systems and requirements to support effective controls for safe operation, aligned with the business asset management strategy.

    Operational control

    • Manage the process of the continuous identification and correction of workplace hazards through inspection plans and verification assessments
    • Test, communicate and improve response plans and procedures to ensure effective mitigation of SHE undesirable event e.g. emergency response plans
    • Monitor and respond pro-actively to hazards in the workplace
    • Lead workplace safety inspections and coach Natref and Service Provider employees
    • Participate in the roll out of the Safety improvement plan and report updates as required
    • Continuously assist and apply knowledge of applicable safety laws and regulations
    • Identify the need for communication and awareness campaigns, and assist in development of themes to be communicated.
    • Facilitate safety discussion (toolbox talks, safety meetings and stand-downs)
    • Ensure utilization of internal and external communication channels/mechanisms

    • Facilitate engagement and manage integration across sub-functions, Functions and workplaces.
    • Participate as member of Safety forums, natural working teams and other groups
    • Engagement with Operations/ Engineering and other stakeholders to ensure alignment with SHE requirements

    Formal Education

    • National Diploma in Safety Management or a Diploma in Engineering.

    Min Experience

    • 3 + years relevant work experience
