Oracle Developer at Discovery Limited

To develop and implement appropriate and efficient Discovery Life Systems according to defined specifications, standards and procedures, using various tools and languages, specifically but not limited to Oracle PL/SQL, and within the architectural standards and guidelines as established within Discovery to obtain optimal systems performance.

Areas of responsibility may include but not limited to

• Develop and Maintain systems according to specifications
• Design and document modules assigned, with design review and assistance to be provided by systems analyst and architects
• Participate in workshops to determine overall functional design
• Generate Reports from data
• Develop in a structured environment using version control
• Support existing systems by investigating, identifying and rectifying problems
• Perform test, debug and quality assurance on programmed code
• Ensure that unit testing is conducted successfully accordingly to the functional specification document, user requirements and test pack
• Use the specific coding standards agreed on
• Log time spent on tasks according to time keeping policy
• Recognise unique demands of IT of non-conventional working hours (standby & additional hours where required)
• Meet deadlines as agreed
• Provide regular status reports
• Attend all technical, user and team meetings
• Communicate clearly and guard all business and systems relationships in a professional way

Education And Experience

• Tertiary education, preferably B.Comm (IS) or B.Sc (Computer Science) would be an advantage
• Applicable Oracle courses would be advantageous
• Must have a minimum of 6+ years Systems Development experience
• Must have a minimum of 6+ years Product (Oracle PL/SQL) specific experience
• Must have XML experience (generate XML through PL/SQL procs)
