Photo Journalist - Cape Town at Media24 (Pty) Ltd

Main purpose of the job

• Netwerk24 is looking for an excellent photographer with experience in journalism to work from Cape Town. The photographer must be able to capture stories from all beats (politics, crime, entertainment, health, etc.) visually. It will also be expected of the photographer to record videos. The suitable candidate will produce newsworthy photos and videos with aesthetic value. The photographer should be able to edit photos according to journalism standards. If the candidate can edit videos, it will count in his or her favour. The photographer should have a good understanding of digital journalism. The suitable candidate will be able to work quickly and under pressure. The successful candidate must also be willing to work irregular hours and overtime, as well as on some weekends and public holidays. The main purpose of the job is to expand Netwerk24's photo and video offering with quality content in line with the Press Code.

Job Outputs

• Work closely with journalists, senior photographer, and other content creators to gather visual content.
• Create own content in consultation with Netwerk24’s news editor for the southern region.
• Keep equipment in good order.
• Identify photo and video opportunities, as well as news stories, daily.
• Deliver newsworthy and/or creative videos of excellent quality daily.

Skills and competencies

• Operating a digital camera for the creation of photo and video content
• Excellent skills in photo editing with Adobe Photoshop
• A strong news sense.
• The ability to work under pressure in a digital, multiplatform environment which includes long hours and work on weekends. Must be able to work in a team and maintain good interpersonal relations.
• Excellent organisational skills in project planning and execution

Required qualifications and experience

• Proven experience as a photojournalist.
• Relevant tertiary education
• At least two years' working experience.
• Valid driver’s license.
