About The Role

The South African investment team seeks a Portfolio Specialist Director to support the growth of our business. Reporting to the Head of the South African Investment Business, this position requires a person who commands respect in the investment community and can communicate effectively with financial advisers and the media. The successful candidate will work closely with the team to leverage expertise and global investment capabilities to deliver first class investment services to investors. This role will be based in our Cape Town office.

Job Responsibilities

• Lead specific T1 client relationships for the Investment Management group in South Africa consistent with the group’s Investment Principles and investment views.
• Contribute to and lead senior relationship management for assigned Investment Management clients this includes engaging strategically to improve relationships with clients and support the account management function.
• Drive the provision, quality and delivery of investment content and communication materials to T1 clients.
• Manage, mentor and assist professional development for team members in South Africa.
• Promote Investment Management through speaking at industry conferences, client events, roadshows, and due diligence days.
• Work with senior members of the EMEA investment team to provide an effective, collaborative and transparent environment for investment discussion and decision-making.
• Provide input into the investment process and undertake peer review of investment decisions.
• T1 Client relationship management – including investment report backs, adhoc presentations and client meetings.
• Support, encourage and participate in global best practice working groups, ensuring appropriate representation of, and contribution from local investment experience.
• Perform other duties as necessary
• Presenting to large audiences and interacting with the media.
• Responsible for ensuring key strategic relationships are maintained.
• Extensive travel both domestically and internationally.

Qualifications

• Graduate degree related to investing is required, with a CFA designation preferable.
• Strong leadership capabilities coupled with a demonstrated ability to motivate and encourage high performing teams.
• Strong strategic and critical thinking skills in a pure investment sense along with a high degree of investment acumen with demonstrated ability to deliver superior risk adjusted returns.
• A track record of applying sophisticated knowledge of capital markets, investment strategies, and alternative investments to identify investment opportunities.
• An understanding of multi-asset portfolios management.
• Demonstrated effectiveness in participation as part of an investment team—adept with articulating ideas, respectfully challenging others, and mentoring team members.
