    Practitioner II: Occupational Safety (P8) (Facilities Management Division: Occupational Safety Department)

    Responsibilities:

    • Implementation of Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment process, corrective action and follow up
    • Co-ordination of Legal training needs as per the OHS Act and Regulations and general training
    • Ensure implementation of standards and policies
    • Contractor safety
    • Conduct investigations of all incidents as per section 24 and ensure appropriate SHE practices
    • Co-ordinate waste management on campus
    • Safety coordinating of Events
    • Co-ordinate emergency procedures
    • Off campus privately own student accommodation safety inspections

    Minimum requirements

    • Degree (NQF 7) in safety management or relevant qualification dealing with fire related risks, gas safety, emergency preparedness
    • 3 to 5 years’ experience in Health and Safety
    • 3 to 5 years’ experience dealing with injury on duty is essential
    • 3 to 5 years’ experience in auditing legal compliance is essential
    • Must have a valid driver’s licence

    Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:

    • Communication with people across all levels
    • Report writing
    • Presentation on executive level
    • Dealing with service providers
    • Mobilizing of resources
    • Facilitate Health and Safety meetings
    • Computer literate

    Recommendations:

    • Experience dealing with fire related risks, gas safety, emergency preparedness, safety inspections, safety meetings, safety training audits.
    • Previous relevant experience in a higher education  institution.
    • Must be able to work extended hours when required.
    • Must be able to travel between the campuses when required.
