Principal Technician All Previous Candidates Must Re-Apply at City of Cape Town

Requirements

• National Diploma in Electrical Engineering
• Must be registered at ECSA as a Professional Engineering Technician
• Must be in possession of a valid Driver’s License code B or EB
• 8 years or more post qualification relevant SCADA engineering experience including the testing and commissioning of automation systems
• High degree of Computer Literacy (MS office)

SPECIAL CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Required to work in all weather conditions
• Required to work outside normal working hours during emergencies, overtime and will be required to do standby duties.
• Will be required to participate in the Essential User Vehicle Scheme.
• Wearing the prescribed safety clothing whilst working in substations and at high sites.
• Will be required to be appointed as a Responsible Person in terms of the NRS Switching Regulations
• The nature of the job requires the incumbent to be physically fit.
• The incumbent cannot be colour blind.
• Ability to stand for long hours during working day.
• Medically fit to work at heights.

Key Performance Areas

• The inherent requirements to perform the functions associated with this post requires sound knowledge of the testing and commissioning of highly complicated Substation Automation systems and a sound knowledge of the operations and requirements of HV and MV primary plant and equipment
• The post must have a clear understanding of the Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Act and Construction Regulations as well as maintaining health and safety standards
• Concludes administrative and planning duties such as Completing time and attendance, travel log sheets, overtime and standby forms.
