A leading automotive parts wholesaler seeks an experienced Product Development Specialist to drive the creation and launch of new product ranges based on vehicle market trends and data. This role is strategic rather than sales or operational, focusing on supplier sourcing, catalogue creation, and aligning parts availability with the South African vehicle market.
The successful candidate will leverage their deep industry expertise to identify opportunities, onboard suppliers, and build ranges across multiple part categories.
Minimum Requirements
10+ years’ experience in the automotive parts industry (wholesale or large retail).
Proven success in launching new product lines, not just stock maintenance.
Strong understanding of vehicle applications and OE/supplier part number mapping.
Proficiency with ERP/catalogue systems (preferably Kerridge).
Experience across multiple product categories, not limited to a single specialism.
Strategic supplier sourcing and business planning experience.
Ability to analyse and act on “car park” data to anticipate market needs.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct in-depth vehicle trend analysis across passenger, light, and heavy commercial segments.
Identify required automotive parts (e.g., brake pads, filters, belts, sensors, clutches) based on market demand.
Develop new product ranges from concept to launch, including supplier identification, part numbering, and pricing strategy.
Source from local suppliers, independents, or direct imports.
Build and maintain a comprehensive ERP-linked product catalogue (Kerridge).
Collaborate with procurement, MD, branch managers, and suppliers to support national growth strategies.
