Professor/ Associate Professor (Electronic Engineering)
The positions are in the area of Microwave Communications or Control Systems. The incumbent will be required to teach undergraduate and postgraduate students, develop independent research programmes, supervise research and undertake administration duties.
The incumbent will report to the Academic Leader: Electrical, Electronic & Computer Engineering.
Minimum requirements
All applicants must have a BSc (Eng) degree in Electronics or any other closely related and appropriate engineering field. In addition, the following apply to each of the levels indicated below.
Professor:
A PhD in an appropriate area
Evidence of excellent teaching experience and leadership in curriculum development in a relevant field at a tertiary level
Excellent and sustained publication of independent research in quality scientific journals. Appropriate for the level
Excellent and sustained track record of successful supervision of postgraduate students at Masters and PhD level, appropriate for the level
Excellent and sustained track record of successful attraction of external research grants
Evidence of strong and sustained academic leadership within the Department/School/College/University, which includes mentorship and coaching
Evidence of national and international recognition in a research area within the discipline
Registered as a Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) or eligible for such registration
Associate Professor:
A PhD in an appropriate area
Evidence of appropriate teaching experience and curriculum development experience in a relevant filed at tertiary level or relevant mentorship experience in an industrial or research environment
Excellent and sustained publication of independent research in quality scientific journals. Appropriate for the level
A sustained track record of successful supervision of postgraduate students at Masters and PhD level, appropriate for the level
Evidence of sustained and successful attraction of external research grants
Evidence of national and/or international recognition in a research area within the discipline
Registered as a Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) or eligible for such registration.
