    Professor/Associate Professor in Computing (P5/6) - (A322.1)

    Job Primary Purpose

    • The primary role of this position is to provide teaching, research, and leadership in the ICT discipline.

    Key Performance Areas:

    Professor:

    • The provision of outstanding and inspirational leadership to the School and University.
    • The provision of strategic leadership in teaching & learning and the provision of relevant, up-to-date courses, using modern and appropriate pedagogies.
    • The provision of outstanding leadership in research at School of Faculty level.
    • A high level of research activity and the production of accredited research outputs.
    • The development of a strong research group with postgraduate students who complete in the minimum time.
    • Track record of successful fundraising for research.
    • The provision of strategic leadership in engagement and leadership in engagement, through which knowledge and skills are used to benefit the discipline/ profession and the community.

    Associate Professor:

    • The provision of strategic leadership at the level of School and Qualification.
    • The provision of leadership in teaching & learning and the provision of relevant, up-to-date courses, using modern and appropriate pedagogies.
    • The provision of leadership in research at a school level.
    • Research and the production of accredited research outputs.
    • Postgraduate supervision and the graduation of Masters’ and Doctoral students in the minimum time.
    • Engagement and leadership in engagement, through which knowledge and skills are used to benefit the discipline/ profession and the community.

    Minimum Requirements:

    Professor:

    • Doctoral qualification in Computer Science or any ICT-related field.
    • 15 years' experience at university with at least 5 years in a leadership position.
    • An outstanding record of research outputs including papers in accredited national and international journals and invited presentations at national and international conferences.
    • An extensive record of postgraduate supervision at Masters’ and Doctoral level with some of these students publishing their research.
    • A strong record of active participation in and leadership of learned societies.
    • Extensive application of disciplinary/ professional knowledge and skills to the benefit of the external community.

    Associate Professor:

    • Doctoral qualification in Computer Sciences or any ICT-related field.
    • 10 years at university with at least 3 years in a leadership position.
    • An extensive record of research outputs including papers in accredited national and international journals and invited presentations at national and international conferences.
    • A substantial record of postgraduate supervision at Masters’ and Doctoral level with some of these students publishing their research.
    • Participation in and leadership of learned societies.
    • Extensive application of disciplinary/ professional knowledge and skills to the benefit of the external community.

    Key Competencies

    • A sound knowledge of the theory and application of ICT discipline.
    • Good interpersonal skills including communication skills.
    • Understanding of contemporary theories of teaching and learning in higher education, with demonstrated skills in tutoring or mentoring.
    • Research Supervision of Master’s degrees
    • A good record of active participation in and leadership of learned societies.
