Project Engineer at Thungela

Job Description

Your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

• Conduct investigations into the feasibility of opportunities identified (including scoping, pre-feasibility and/ or feasibility phases) and reporting
• Accurate project planning and design for implementation phase
• Effective management and coordination of the project design management process
• Project implementation management for designated projects
• Market analysis and application of best practice and benchmarking on equipment selection
• Provide information to enable financial forecasting, capital costing and budget execution
• Information sharing and keeping abreast of new technology and best practices through frequent stakeholder interactions
• Manage/Coordinate contractor activities on-site i.e., the quality of work performed on the project as well as the project progress
• Involved in effectively managing project costs and expenditures as well as continuous reporting on project progress

This role is in the Project Services Department at band 6 level and reports to the Capital Project Manager

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or other relevant technical discipline (NQF Level 7)
• Project Management qualification or related field
• Advantageous: Management Development Programme or equivalent
• Advantageous: Government Certificate of Competency (GCC)
• Advantageous: Formal qualification in Programme Management
• Advantageous: Registration with a relevant professional body

Experience

• In depth experience in design and / or design management
• Minimum 6-8 years’ experience in field related to the projects, preferably in a Mining Environment
• Preferred: Experience of programme or project management
• Experience in dealing with third parties (e.g., consultants, specialists)
• Advantageous: Experience in project controls
• Advantageous: Experience in contract management
