Research Technician Bacteriology (Three (3) Year Fixed Term Contract) (Roodeplaat)
Compiling and executing technical activity plans for the implementation of research projects in Plant Pathology, with a focus on bacterial diseases of vegetables, industrial crops and medicinal plants.
Coordinate activities and assist with the molecular identification of bacterial cultures, inoculum preparation and greenhouse and field trials evaluation.
Compile and present basic training material (presentations) for students and smallholder farmers.
Compose popular articles about basic aspects of plant diseases.
Manage project facilities, material and equipment and ensure optimal utilization of resources.
Compile technical reports when required.
Develop technical capacity at an appropriate level.
Assist in rendering technical or other research services at a national level.
Requirements
A National Diploma in Microbiology / Plant Pathology or related field.
Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology / Plant Pathology or related field will be an added advantage.
Two years relevant experience in technical aspects of bacteriology and/or general plant pathology.
Experience in disease diagnosis and pathogen identification will be an added advantage.
Experience in molecular biology and basic bioinformatic analysis will be an added advantage.
Good verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
