Rock Engineering Specialist, D4, NVC021/24GS at Seriti

The Role:

The role is responsible for providing assistance to the operations within the area of responsibility with regards to rock engineering design layouts and support systems that meet operational requirements. Ensuring adherence to all relevant legislation, standards and codes of practices. 

Responsibilities will include but not limited to:

• Oversee and perform design layouts and support systems for Operations in area of responsibility through analysing rock engineering data so that effective design decisions are made.
• Ensure and monitor legal and Code of Practice (COP) compliance for Rock Engineering and rock related Codes of Practices, standards and procedures are updated and implemented.
• Effective people management, ensuring that roles are well defined and clarified and that competencies and learning paths are developed to human capacity and capability.
• Conduct Rock Engineering training and support to relevant personnel on all Operations through providing training on the proper installation and use of roof bolts.
• Assist with stakeholder alignment and knowledge transfer through interacting regularly with external consultants and oversee the work performed and with the Geology, Project services, Survey and Mining Services Departments

Requirements:

• BSc Degree / Diploma in Mining Engineering or a related Science field
• Registered as a Rock Engineer with SANIRE
• Chamber of Mines Certificate in Strata Control and Rock Mechanics
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in Rock Engineering in the mining industry
• Experience in production environment in the mining industry
• In depth understanding of relevant safety and mining legislation including: The Mine Health and Safety Act, Minerals and Energy Act
• Knowledge of rock engineering practices, principles and processes
• Basic understanding of the risk assessment process
• Understanding of Rock Engineering best practices and new technologies
• Knowledge of Mine Planning Principles
• Computer literacy (MS Office)
• Valid driver’s license
• In possession or able to obtain a valid Certificate of Fitness

Advantageous:

• Experience in Slope Monitoring Radars
• Management Development Program
• Good knowledge of Seriti’s Safety and Sustainable development policies, procedures and standards
• Knowledge of Seriti’s Operational and Rock Engineering Codes of Practices, policies and procedures
• Coal and Massive Open Pit certificates
