Seed Process Engineering Specialist at Bayer

Role purpose

•  Safeguard proper technology application in our seed processes and installations.
•  As an expert role ensure proper definition and/or review of every seed processing project in the region
•  Be able to execute seed projects independently and within a team

Key responsibilities and tasks

Knowledge and expert role

•  Excellent knowledge of seeds plant operations and processing: harvesting, intake, dehusking, drying, shelling, storage, sizing, treating and bagging including seed quality aspects
•  Be on top of Seed process technology developments in the industry and define needs for improvements and innovations
•  Build trustful relations with industry vendors and other third parties
•  Connect, interact with internal EMEA/Global peers/experts in operations, MEX, GE, E&T, PTT. Seek feedback from end users on applied technologies

Project definition and project review

•  Reviews every seed project on proper application of the available technology ensuring safe, productive and qualitative solution definitions
•  Owns the development of process flow diagrams and P&ID’s for certain projects
•  Can act as a Venture Manager in order to translate operational/Quality/safety opportunities into a clear project scope definition
•  Be able to autonomously do conceptual/basic project definition, including feasibility, cost estimations, and capacity definition

Project execution

•  Be able to manage autonomously projects up to 5M€ or various small projects in parallel in all their aspects: feasibility, cost estimation, stage gates, approval, design, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, start-up and hand-over, with responsibility over safety, budget and schedule
•  Be part of project start-up and commissioning teams

•  Analyze seed plant performance using OEE, IP21 tools and define shortcomings and

Experience, Skills, and Qualifications

•  Master’s degree in one of the engineering disciplines
•  (Electro-Mechanical, Civil, Chemistry, Agronomy…) or similar by experience
•  Relevant experience as Project Engineer:
•  Minimum 5 years
•  Analytical skills and relevant experience as a process improvement engineer on real-life seed  processing operations using optimization techniques (6 sigma, lean, statistical process control, OEE…)
•  Operational experience in a seed facility
•  Ability to manage several topics simultaneously
•  Ability to connect with people in other sites and cultures
•  Fluent in English, affinity for other languages is essential
