What you'll do:

Frontend Architecture and Technical Direction

• Help shape frontend architecture and establish patterns that can be used across the team
• Make technical decisions and clearly communicate the reasoning and trade-offs behind them
• Design frontend applications and architecture at scale, thinking beyond individual features to the wider platform
• Contribute to the ongoing frontend rewrite and the long-term technical direction of the platform
• Identify technical risks, dependencies and areas of technical debt, and drive their resolution

Advanced Frontend Development and Delivery

• Design, build and maintain complex frontend applications using React
• Take ownership of larger technical initiatives and projects from initial idea through to delivery
• Work closely with other engineers to deliver larger pieces of functionality
• Work effectively within large or complex codebases
• Learn and contribute to the broader technology stack as the team moves toward full-stack engineering

Code Quality and Engineering Standards

• Review code and ensure adherence to standards, design patterns and best practices
• Help improve development practices, code quality and application performance
• Investigate difficult technical problems and drive them through to resolution
• Work with backend engineers and APIs to ensure a clean boundary between frontend and backend systems

Technical Leadership and Mentorship

• Provide practical technical guidance to other engineers
• Mentor and help intermediate engineers work through problems
• Take responsibility for a technical area so the wider team can focus on delivery
• Bring and articulate technical opinions, while remaining open to alternative approaches
• Contribute to technical discussions and knowledge-sharing across the team

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
• Relevant certifications in frontend or web development technologies

Your Expertise:

• Around 7+ years' professional software development experience
• Communication skills (technical and non-technical audiences)
• Strong hands-on experience with ReactJS
• Interpersonal and relationship management skills
• Experience designing and working with frontend architecture at scale
• Advanced analytical skills
• Experience working with APIs and backend services
• Advanced problem-solving skills
• Experience with testing, performance and maintainability
• Ability to make technical decisions independently and explain the trade-offs
• Strong Git and code review experience
• Coaching and mentoring skills
• Experience taking ownership of projects from initial idea through to delivery
• Technical leadership
• Java and Spring experience would be beneficial, particularly for full-stack development
• Strong JavaScript and/or TypeScript knowledge
• Strong understanding of component architecture, state management and application structure
• Deep understanding of frontend architecture and scalable design practices
• Knowledge of integrating frontend applications with APIs and backend services
• Strong understanding of testing, performance and maintainability principles
• Understanding of version control and code review practices
• Awareness of technical risk, dependencies and technical debt management
• Understanding of modern engineering practices within a delivery-focused team
