    Senior Machinist

    Job Purpose:

    • Weylandts Furniture Creations is looking for an experienced and skilled Senior Machinist to join our WFCF team. The successful candidate will have strong experience working with timber and sheet materials and be confident operating a range of woodworking machinery to produce high-quality, accurate components and finished products.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Set up and operate a range of woodworking machinery safely and efficiently.
    • Accurately machine timber, hardwoods, softwoods, MDF, plywood and other sheet materials.
    • Operate router tables using a variety of cutters and tooling.
    • Operate and set up band saws for accurate cutting and shaping.
    • Operate panel saws for precise sizing of sheet materials.
    • Set up and operate mortising and tenoning machinery to produce accurate joints.
    • Select the correct cutters, blades and tooling for different materials and applications.
    • Read and interpret technical drawings, cutting lists and specifications.
    • Accurately measure, mark out and machine components to required dimensions and tolerances.
    • Carry out machine set-ups, adjustments and basic maintenance.
    • Inspect finished components to ensure they meet required quality standards.
    • Identify and rectify machining defects or inaccuracies.
    • Minimise material waste through accurate cutting and efficient machine use.
    • Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.
    • Follow all workshop health and safety procedures, including correct use of PPE and machine guarding.
    • Assist with training and mentoring junior machinists and workshop staff where required.
    • Work closely with other members of the production team to meet deadlines and production targets.

    Machinery & Skills

    The successful candidate should have proven experience with:

    • Router tables and multiple cutter profiles
    • Band saws
    • Panel saws
    • Mortising machines
    • Tenoning machines
    • General woodworking machinery
    • Timber and sheet-material processing
    • Machine set-up and tooling changes
    • Accurate measuring and machining
    • Reading technical drawings and cutting lists

    Experience & Qualifications

    Essential:

    • Significant experience as a timber/wood machinist.
    • Strong knowledge of woodworking machinery and machining processes.
    • Ability to work accurately from drawings and specifications.
    • Good understanding of timber, sheet materials and grain direction.
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Good understanding of workshop health and safety.
