Senior Professional Officer: Engineering at City of Cape Town

Requirements

• BSc Eng Civil / B Eng Civil.
• 5 years’ relevant experience in Project Management/design of Wastewater Treatment works.
• Registered, or eligible to register, as a Professional Engineer.
• Required to work in all weather conditions.
• Detailed knowledge of wastewater treatment design principles and implementation.
• Knowledge of relevant local authority legislation, regulations, and policies.
• Detailed knowledge of capital works budgeting and cost control.
• A valid EB Driver’s licence.

Key Performance Areas

• Prepare reports to Head Projects and Implementation with recommendations on cost, etc.
• Prepare engineering designs, specifications, and drawings, and manage multi-disciplinary projects which include investigations, scoping, feasibility studies, designs, project management, contract administration, construction supervision, commissioning, and hand-over of major/minor future infrastructure, upgrades of present infrastructure, and operational-driven projects.
• Design the infrastructure, check tender drawings, compile specifications, and evaluate tenders, liaising with Quantity Surveyors.
• Provide engineering guidance and supervise, allocate jobs, and train and mentor Engineers-in-training and Project Administrators.
• Ensure correct and efficient contract administration, written communication with internal and external parties, and safekeeping thereof.
• Prepare capital and operating impact within a planned project and manage and control expenditure against approved budget allocations. Inform Head: Projects and Implementation to ensure appropriate capital funding is available.
• Disseminate functional, planning, project implementation, and operational information.
