Senior SCADA Engineer at Redheads Engineering Solutions (Pty) Ltd

Job Summary:

We at Redheads Engineering Solutions are assisting one of our Awesome Clients who is an international leader in the renewable energy industry and they are looking for a Senior SCADA Engineer to join their growing team in Johannesburg

• Development of all the SCADA design activities during the entire life of a project: from the feasibility study and early works to the executive engineering, construction and start-up phases.
• Purchase order specifications for activating external engineering support.
• Managing and supervision of the design and the engineering activities of external third parties.
• SCADA technical specifications and network architecture, when required, in support to Procurement unit during bid phases.
• Follow up and review of technical documents issued by EPC contractors and/or suppliers, assuring the full compliance of the design with EGP specifications and engineering best practices.
• Coordination of design activities with other members of the project team.
• Support the Design Units and Project Manager for the estimation of project CAPEX, OPEX and time schedule.
• Support the Design To Cost Unit in evaluating an optimal design strategy.
• Provide technical approval and supervision for any necessary tests related to SCADA and Control System (FAT\SAT).
• Support to Construction Unit in technical issues during construction, commissioning, test and start-up phases; site inspection when necessary.
• Support to O&M Unit for the plant SCADA system integration in O&M remote monitoring and control centre.
• Collaboration with the Digital Hub (ICT) for the determination, sizing and budgeting of the best solution for communication services in each location, according to the needs of the remote operation and the services to be provided.
• Ensure equipment design in accordance with the current Health, Safety and Environmental legislation.

Technical-professional knowledge:

• Knowledge of the development processes of the plant design
• Knowledge of field instrumentation, power automation, control systems and data acquisition systems, network architectures, communication protocols, HMI and functional diagrams.
• The technical ability for approval and supervision for the necessary tests related to the control and data acquisition systems (FAT/ SAT).
• Knowledge of control systems and protection of electrical substations.
• Knowledge of CEI, IEC and other industrial standards internationally applicable, including Australian Standards about power automation and control systems.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Visio, AutoCAD, Microsoft Project.
• IT skills are a plus.

Experience:

• Plus 10 years’ experience in SCADA Systems in Thermal Power Generation/Transmission/ Distribution or/and renewable power technologies
• Experience in the design of control systems and data acquisition (SCADA) and data communication networks in renewable power technologies, especially for design, documentation, commissioning, technical support and maintenance support.
• Very good experience in data communication architectures, communication protocols and network equipment.
• Experience in automation of electrical substations of power plants (control and protection).

Education:

• Engineering B-degree (Electrical, Electronic, Informatics, or Computer Sciences), Masters degree is a plus
• Professional registration with ECSA.
