Senior Specialist Core Infrastructure Support (CIS). at Vodafone Global Enterprise

Role Purpose

Maintenance and Support functions required for the Core Infrastructure Support  department’s job objectives.

Your responsibilities will include:

Key accountabilities and decision ownership:

To maintain and support

• Testing and integration of new core network elements in Core Voice and Data, MSS,MGW,CDS,STP,CSDB(HLR,HSS,EIR,ADD),ENUM,iSBC and NFVi.
• Integration and creation of database for new radio elements like BTS,BSC and RNC
• Interface with Transmission and Radio as well as other divisions in Vodacom.
• Conduct statistical analysis to determine the performance of the core network elements and implement remedial actions in conjunction with other divisions 
• Maintain productive relationships with suppliers and other groups in the company.
• Initiate Routine Maintenance actions in accordance with policies and procedures.
• Repair faults in accordance with standards and specifications or escalate to Core application Support and Maintenance for a solution
• Perform Backup of MSS,MGW,STP and NFV elements as per policy and procedure
• Maintenance & Support of CORE Elements: CSDB (HLR, HSS, EIR, ADD), MSS, MGW, CDS, STP, MSC, G/MS, MSS, MGW, CDS, STP, MSC, G/MSC, Protocols: #7, SIP, IP, DIAMETER and SIGTRAN analyst, , Element Managers: SC, NetAct, @COM as well as all the other elements in the Common Switching Core: Legal Interception, roaming solutions. 
• TAC 1 support, of trouble tickets, service requests and change requests to vendors.

Special investigations.

• OLO support,investigations and resolutions.
• Vodacom Business support,investigations  and resolutions.
• Ensure that network changes are implemented accurately and network is stable and tested for optimal performance after implementation.

Core competencies, knowledge and experience:

• Telecommunication Industry and current government telecommunication legislation as well as developments within ETSI/3GPP IETF and ITU-T.
• Relevant GSM Core Systems.
• Voice Core,Mobile Convergence,NFVi,Orchestration and SDN.
• Telco over Cloud Infrastructure operating models.
• VIM/Hypervisor Design (KVM Openstack,VMWare etc).
• Business Acumen and Ethics.
• Computer Applications (MS Office).
• Internet Technologies.
• Engineering and Quality Standards.
• Must have a good understanding of GSM/GPRS/UMTS/LTE protocols and SS#7 and other IP Protocols.
• 3GPP and non 3GPP call flows

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

• Matric / Grade 12 Essential
• Minimum 3 year diploma or degree in Engineering or Computer Science or an equivalent qualification (Essential).
• Minimum 3 years experience in mobile operations and support environment (Essential).
• Minimum 3 years experience in Core Network Elements (Essential).
• Working knowledge of Telco over cloud stack and voice core application (Desirable).
• A good knowledge and understanding of NFVi (Essential).
• A working knowledge of GSM,GPRS,UMTS,LTE, principles and protocols.
• A basic knowledge and understanding of Transmission will be an added advantage.
