To drive the process required to identify and mitigate the operational risk to the organization which is the risk of loss resulting from inadequate or failed internal processes, operations, people or systems or external events.
Driving the desired behaviour to ensure risk controls, risk assurance and risk based decision making processes to influencing operational efficiency and resilience.
This role ensures that the risk management function is a core pillar integrated to business operations.
This function will provide support and assurance on implementation and testing of operational processes including business continuity management across the business.
Position Outputs
Develop and or review operational risk (OR) policies, standards and guidelines for the business in line with Transnet’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Strategy and Framework. Ensure consistent implementation of approved OR policies, standards and guidelines across the business.
Ensure operational risks capable of threatening achievement of business and shareholder objectives are clearly identify and that mitigations are put in place and are managed by the risk owners through comprehensive and approved risk registers.
Minimise impact on operational efficiency, monitor implementation progress and follow through on audit findings with the business to improve performance targets.
Business Continuity Management (BCM) is key to the organisation achieving its objectives. Development and ongoing review of business continuity plans, scenario planning and testing will be conducted.
Provide support to business through activation of Business Continuity Plans (BCPs) for major operational disruptions or disasters emerging from both internal and external environment (e.g. fires, floods, spillages, pandemic).
Ensure seamless integration and collaboration with the Operating Divisions in identifying and managing the high-risk areas including single points of failure and other interdependencies.
Analyse operational risk trends for proactive management of risks. Provide assurance to various stakeholders and governance structures.
Ensure strict compliance with policies, standards and guidelines and all regulatory requirements for managing operational risks. Benchmark best practices and international trends.
Qualifications and Experience
Relevant Bachelor’s Degree (NQF 7) - includes in areas of Risk Management, Engineering, Finance
Post graduate degree will be an advantage
Minimum 10-12 years’ experience in a large enterprise of which at least 5 – 7 years at a senior managerial level
Operational experience in a large and complex environment
Stakeholder and relationship management experience will be key.
