Server Engineer - Gauteng at Teraco

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

• May be required to support other systems, based on team and individual skill.
• Note: this role has a requirement to support all sites. Therefore, it includes occasional travel to DBN and CPT, in addition to local travel in Johannesburg between sites.

 MAIN FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

Server Infrastructure Management Physical and Virtual on all sites

• Plan and execute server hardware and software upgrades as needed
• Maintain the organization's server infrastructure, ensuring high performance, availability, and scalability.

System Administration

• Administer and troubleshoot servers running various operating systems, including but not limited to Windows Server, Linux, and virtualization platform

Performance Monitoring and Optimization

• Monitor server performance and proactively identify and address bottlenecks or issues to ensure optimal system efficiency
• Conduct regular performance tuning and optimization of server resources

Collaboration and Documentation

• Create and maintain comprehensive documentation related to server configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
• Collaborate with other IT teams, including network engineers, security specialists, and application developers, to ensure seamless integration and operation of the server environment.

Incident Response and Problem Resolution

• Respond to server-related incidents, troubleshoot issues promptly, and implement effective solutions to minimize downtime
• Log incidents and report on trend analysis
• Capacity Planning
• Compliance and Security
  • Ensure server environments comply with industry regulations and internal security policies
• Stay up to date with Emerging Technologies
• Maintaining of Backups and BCP testing schedules
• Logging and updating calls via the ticketing system;.
• Interactive relationship with management;
• Engagement with OEMs and technical consultants;
• Change control logging as it relates to the supported systems;
• Monthly reporting;
• ISO 27001, PCI, ISAE 3402 Type II compliance, monitoring and reporting, as it relates to supported systems;
• Cybersecurity, information security monitoring & reporting.
• Once a month to once every 6 weeks standby afterhours shift

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Matric;
• Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer Certification (MCSE) or equivalent
• Accustomed to working in a high-energy environment;
• Proven experience as a Senior Server Engineer or similar role
• Minimum 5 years server engineer experience
• Experience in working with Veeam
• In-depth knowledge of server hardware, operating systems, and virtualization technologies
• Strong proficiency with Azure and Office 365
• Valid South African Driver’s License & own vehicle;
• Linux experience advantageous.
