    Simulation Laboratory Facilitator M000522

    Job description

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

    • Facilitation of teaching and learning of the undergraduate nursing students in simulation and clinical areas.
    • The simulation facilitator will be required to supervise, guide, support, mentor and teach clinical skills to the nursing students in the simulation area.
    • Key performance area includes facilitation of clinical teaching and learning of undergraduate students using advanced technology, planning and implementation of simulation lab activities, records management and professional development both of nursing students and academic staff using technology.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Teaching and learning:

    • Facilitation of Teaching and Learning activities in the simulation laboratory of the undergraduate programme.
    • Record keeping of clinical teaching of students in the simulation area.
    • Coaching and mentoring students in simulation environment.
    • Maintains current knowledge of simulation methodologies and technologies and shares these practices.
    • Refine processes to create an environment that supports teaching and learning.
    • Employment of a variety of simulation teaching and learning strategies.
    • Plan and implement OSCE program according to the clinical examination schedule.
    • Support teaching and learning in the simulation area.
    • Implementation of clinical assessment strategies to determine learner competencies.
    • Ensure use of technology in the simulation area to facilitate learning.
    • Enhance curricula and lesson plans through simulation.

    Research and Innovation:

    • Conduct and encourage research in the simulation area.
    • Conduct own Postgraduate studies.
    • Supervision of research in undergraduate.
    • Participation in NuMiQ research activities.

    Social responsibilities:

    • Maintain relationship with the stakeholder
    • Ensure information sharing with stakeholders.
    • Provide tours of simulation area to educators, stakeholders, potential students/families, and the community.
    • Participation in community engagement meetings and development of projects to the benefit of community, stakeholders and nursing service delivery.

    Administrative Leadership:

    • Plan clinical activities in the simulation area.
    • Assures smooth daily operations in the simulation laboratory.
    • Develops and implements workflow processes for the simulation program.
    • Develop Standardized Patient Program.
    • Oversees technology and purchasing/procurement of equipment used in the simulation program.
    • Ensure availability of clinical stock in the simulation area.
    • Develop SOP’s in the simulation room.
    • Do asset inventory in the simulation area.

    Minimum requirements

    • A 4-year degree (NQF level 8) in Nursing Science.
    • A postgraduate diploma (NQF level 8) in Nursing Education.
    • Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
    • A minimum of 4 years’ clinical experience.
    • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in nursing education.

    RECOMMENDATION / ADDED ADVANTAGE:

    • A Master of Nursing Sciences degree (NQF level 9).

    REMUNERATION:

    • The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
