Specialist: DevOps Engineer at Vodacom

Role purpose:

• Building, Maintaining and Supporting of traditional and cloud (AWS) services/solutions in the VFS Payment Solutions unit. The role is also responsible for supporting and technical operations and maintenance of applications deployed to support the business services.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Ensure necessary operational controls, governance and policies are in continuously implemented, maintained, adhered to and that all relevant controls are documented and executed
• Monitor and maintain infrastructure performance, capacity, and availability. Provide 2nd and 3rd level support for the resolution of application and infrastructure-related incidents and problems. Perform Business Continuity Management and Conduct Disaster Recovery Planning and executions
• Compile incident reports, attend/conduct incident reviews and follow through to ensure permanent fixes for production problems. Leading resolution implementation thereof with the relevant DevSecOps, Development and Systems Analysis teams
• Troubleshoot and resolve application and system issues, develop solutions, document corrective processes
• Interface with different role players (Vendors, Change Management, IT, Customer Care departments etc.) to ensure that any operational changes or incidents are effectively and efficiently resolved
• Facilitate the process of acceptance and/or application performance testing to ensure a stable production environment
• Facilitating and managing release deployments and changes into the production environments
• Build, deploy and maintain cloud-based services (AWS) into the development and production environments
• Design and implement supporting infrastructure and tooling for software module development and operation
• Implement supporting database and middleware capabilities to support software module development and operations
• Monitor and maintain infrastructure performance, capacity and availability

The ideal candidate for this role will have:
Essential

• 3 Year related degree or diploma in IT, Engineering, Computer Science
• 3- 5 years experience in similar role
• Working in a Devops Engineering & Application Support (standby) environment utilising various technologies
• Exposure to Enterprise applications (i.e. large scale applications) with a high availability requirement
• Cloud such as AWS experience (Essential)
• Linux/Unix experience (Essential)

Desirable Experience

• Min 5 years experience in a similar role
• Min 5 years experience and knowledge of IP networks and related solutions
• Experience Cloud-native architectures, including public cloud PaaS / IaaS, micro-services architectures, APIs preferred
• Good problem-solving ability in complex environments
• Strong communications skills and time-management skills, with the ability manage multiple tasks, and work well under pressure
• Engineering Certification (AWS Preferred)

• Extensive knowledge of trouble shooting and fault finding on Web, Applications and Cloud environments
• Application of ITIL principles in an operational environment
