    Specialist Supply Chain and Purchasing Specialist

    Role Purpose & Key accountabilities

    • Responsible for preventive and reactive supply security in the supply chain including monitoring (KPI setup and tracking), steering and reporting to management to guarantee parts supply.
    • Responsible for the supply escalation process in cooperation with local and  central management (Purchasing, Quality and Logistics).
    • Responsible for capacity steering of demand (using internal systems)
    • Responsible for providing input regarding the supply chain process as part of the procurement process with the central buying function.
    • Responsible to ensure that BMW incl. SA specific requirements (International Purchasing Conditions) are adhered to (including adherence to APDP 2, B-BBBEE requirements and certificate tracking).
    • Responsible to identify and evaluate potential suppliers to produce components in his field of expertise and to advise the respective BMW AG Group Buyers of the potential suppliers.
    • Responsible to monitor and steer the sustainability targets and required certificates at the suppliers.
    • Responsible and accountable to ensure that, by means of a robust international communication network, the interests of the relevant BMW Group Purchasing department are adequately and effectively represented in BMW SA.

    Key accountabilities of the function

    • Leads and collaborates with cross functional teams during critical situation - lockdowns, energy, tooling breakdown, strike, medical situations, storms, insolvency, supply chain delays, harbour shut downs to ensure a stable parts supply to BMW.
    • Steers/analyzes parts availability for on-going series/launch production.
    • Develops plans to address shortcomings and establishes countermeasures to meet BMW supply chain requirements.
    • Functions as an integral part of BMW Quality, Purchasing and Logistics teams for launch and series.
    • Collaborates with QMT and Logistics associates to implement Capacity monitoring tools with Suppliers.
    • Supports reporting of regional topics to the BMW Group capacity review board in order to keep BMW production running.
    • Provides transparency of the Supply Chain and communicates risks to management and requests supplier escalation as necessary.
    • Performs annual Supply Chain Management System audits at suppliers and develops action plan to address open topics.

    Purchasing specific:

    • If there is a need for deeper localisation: Evaluates global market conditions/trends and obtains knowledge of latest technologies and procurement/costing structures. Keeps abreast of legislation requirements for local content and export. Independently analyses the market, conducts feasibility and benchmark studies and submits proposals regarding the purchasing and procurement of local content and Export potentials within the framework of the BMW Group global sourcing strategy.
    • Works in close collaboration with the BMW AG Group Buyer, supports the decision-making process regarding supplier and sub-supplier selection and project assessment and activities resulting from the risk evaluation.
    • Supports the Group buyer with completion of the purchasing contract between BMW and the supplier, including interface agreements, cost/price setting and development, purchasing conditions, purchase orders and adherence to APDP2/B-BBEE requirements

    Educational Background / Professional Knowledge and Experience / Other Skills

    • BA/BS degree in Supply Chain Management/ Purchasing / Procurement or related field.
    • 5+ years of professional experience in Supply Chain and/or in manufacturing technology specifically: Supply Chain Planning, Material Requirement Planning (MRP), Material Control, Production Control, VPS, Lean Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality Management, Supplier Management Systems.
    • 5+ years of experience in project management, negotiations, purchasing/procurement, capacity evaluations, material flow and process auditing techniques.
    • Logistical IT skills knowledge
    • 5+ years working knowledge on interior, exterior, electrical, chassis or powertrain components and logistic or supply chain processes.
    • 5+ years of professional communication skills (written, verbal and presentation).
    • 5+ years MS Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, Power BI Access).
    • 5+ years of professional interpersonal and intercultural skills.
    • 5+ years knowledge of BMW Management System and Processes (preferred).
    • 2+ years of  strategic planning, critical thinking, and innovation skills.
