    Survey Technician (Field)

    Woolpert Africa is based in South Africa and offers extensive high accuracy lidar, imagery and remote sensing experience, as well as airborne topographic, hyper spectral, and thermal survey and mapping. We provide mapping services for engineering, infrastructure, mining, mapping, agriculture and environmental sectors in more than 45 African countries. We believe great companies are built from exceptional people and amazing clients. Because of our growth, our Johannesburg office is seeking Survey Technician.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Supports Woolpert’s field data collection efforts by operating survey instruments, collecting data, performing field calculations, assisting in construction staking, brush clearing, etc.
    • Monitors conditions of equipment and reports repair needs as necessary. Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment required to complete field work.
    • Documents all crew time for billing purposes.
    • Loads and unloads equipment from survey vehicle daily.
    • Maintains survey equipment including electronic total stations, GPS units, antenna, radios, cables, batteries, modems, tripods, rods, levels, generators, traffic control devices, etc. and reports service needs as required.
    • Maintains crew vehicle and reports service needs as required.
    • Records field data in electronic data collectors. Downloads electronic data and logs downloads.
    • Review, analyzes and summarizes recorded and/or collected data.
    • Is responsible for the accuracy and completeness of data collected. Communicates with homeowners and interested parties to gain access to the project area.

    Required Qualification:

    • Matric Qualification.
    • Must be mentally and physically capable of performing all essential duties required of the position.
    • Must have average communication skills, both verbal and written and be able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
    • Must be able to work with survey-related mathematical concepts (proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volume, slope, elevations, etc.). Must be able to travel frequently and extensively, overnight and/or out of town.
    • Must be able to work overtime as required.
    • Must pass a pre-employment driver’s license background check and maintain satisfactory driving record, as required by our insurance company.
    • Must be able to pass annual industrial and mining medical exams
