Technical Manager - Workshop Services at Unitrans

Job Advert Summary

• Unitrans is seeking a Technical Manager - Workshop Services to oversee the efficiency of the technical services provided by the respective workshops to the mechanization depots in the Agricultural division.
• Lead and guide the respective workshop teams with a hands-on management style, providing independent oversight and guidance.
• Monitor technical efficiency and productivity, including preventative and scheduled maintenance, planned and unplanned repairs, ensure quality and timely execution of technical services and managing cost of maintenance and repair work.

Minimum Requirements

• Senior Technician (National N4-6 Diploma in engineering)
• Specialised experienced with operation, diagnostic, repair and maintenance of trucks, tractors & construction machinery
• Strong technical services and workshop Management skills and experience
• Must be willing and able to travel frequently across African Countries

Work Geography:

• South Africa, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Mozambique and Swaziland (13 Agriculture Depots)

Duties & Responsibilities

• Ensure workshop efficiency & productivity across the agricultural division
• Vehicle maintenance programs (preventative & scheduled)
• Vehicle repair procedures
• Monitor work in progress (WIP)
• Monitor vehicle of the road (VOR)
• Ensure the suitable & productive workshop staff structures are in place
• Sourcing & training of skilled technicians
• Perform quality assurance audits
• Lead & mentor the technical services teams
• Monthly management reporting on the division’s productivity and efficiency
• Cost control (maintenance and repairs)

Budget preparation

• Monitor workshop expenses against budget
• Develop systems and processes to record and monitoring costs
• Measure actual machine lifecycle costing (cost to maintain & run)
• Evaluate parts, lubricant and tyre suppliers (availability & pricing)
• Ensure Fuel, Lubricant and equipment security at depot
• Manage tyre purchase and tyre maintenance
• Ensure timely procurement and availability of tools, spare parts, and material*

Technical competencies required:

• Building capacity of workshops through transfer of knowledge and implementation of efficient systems and processes.
• Providing expert advice & guidance to depot workshop management on improving efficiencies.
• The ability to manage, operate, monitor and report on business performance.
• Considering and evaluating overall technical services performance to determine where improvements can be made.
