Transversal Network Specialist at Transnet

Position Purpose

• Safeguard Transnet and ICT’s interests and reputation by protecting the organisation’s computer network from internal and external threats.
• Provide security thought leadership on core security questions facing the organisation (i.e. data protection, identity and access management, digital security, data privacy, confidentiality, integrity, device protection, cloud security, availability, etc.) based on leading security practices.

Position Outputs

• Support Transversal Network Operations
• Lead the team in the delivery of optimal network operations.
• Oversee the technical analysis of complex software, hardware and network equipment for integrated network operations.
• Review documentation and improve processes administration, installation, configuration and troubleshooting.
• Present findings and advise on network capabilities and limitations.
• Maintain Transversal Network
• Monitor the performance and availability of network systems by review of service uptime and utilisation.
• Maintain network operations according to technical design and Service Level Agreement (SLA) defined.
• Lead the improvement of maintenance capability by using automation for upgrades, enterprise backup and storage.
• Coordinate the execution of network maintenance activities such as change requests and maintenance routines.
• Review the quality of the work undertaken by technical staff.
• Optimise Transversal Network Performance
• Lead initiatives to improve the network systems and service delivery through automation and virtualisation technologies.
• Monitor the relationships between the network users and applications.
• Support regular audits, network testing and implementation.
• Develop reports regarding network security, performance, and availability and key operational metrics including performance, utilisation, throughput and capacity.
• Resolve Transversal Network incidents
• Simulate user problems to resolve operating difficulties.
• Improve existing issue resolution methods and techniques.
• Assist senior leaders in disaster recovery planning and testing.
• Organise system activities including planned maintenance events, system backup processes and disaster recovery drills.
• Provide guidance and/or training for less-experienced staff to resolve more complex problems.

Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications & Experience:

• A relevant Technical Diploma
• Cisco Certified Network Associate or equivalent
• 6 - 8 years’ experience in Network Management within a large organisation (experience to include Business change techniques such as business process re- engineering,
• Requirement of Trust and honesty in the handling of Finances as per the National Credit Act Amendment 19 Standard Job Requirements
• Driver’s license code 08
