    Wembley College: Head of High School

    Description

    Wembley College is a leading, English Medium, co-educational, independent school situated on a beautiful campus amongst the rolling hills of Greytown in the KwaZulu Natal Midlands.  An hour from Pietermaritzburg and an hour from Ballito makes for an ideal ‘country school’ within easy striking distance of a Central Business District and the warm KwaZulu Natal coast. Founded in 1997, the school enters candidates for the Cambridge Examinations that are set externally and recognised world-wide.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Academics 

    • Responsible for quality of Subject Teachers 
    • Guidance to subject teachers 
    • Coaching of new teachers 
    • Ensure that subject curricula are adequately covered. 
    • Supports best practices in curriculum and pedagogy, based on current research on teaching and learning.
    • Academic Offerings 
    • Review and advise on the Academic offering and make recommendations on viability of subjects or introduction of subjects. 
    • Supervises curriculum integrity, alignment, and articulation in the high school. 
    • Serves as the academic advisor to the HOHS as it pertains to curriculum, academic programming, and personnel. 
    • Teachers Development 
    • Identify skills gaps and implement corrective actions. 
    • Serves as the director and coordinator of faculty professional development and faculty growth and renewal. 
    • Subject development 
    • In conjunction with the Subject Teacher implement improvements in the subject offering and extension. 
    • HS Professional development 
    • Ensure the continued professional development of High School Teaching Staff. 
    • Acts as an educational facilitator for best institutional and educational practices  
    • Training 
    • Initiate and schedule required subject related Cambridge Training. 
    • Assessment Training 
    • Ensure that all High School staff are fully trained and regularly refreshed on the Cambridge Assessment. 
    • Runs the Academic internal Test and Examination timetables.  
    • Supervision 
    • Leads, develops, and manages meetings, task forces, and other programming as they pertain to the job. 
    • Check that books are regularly marked, and comments included.  
    • Meets regularly with all High School Staff members as a group and individually. 
    • Responsible for the completing and checking of Termly reports and comments along with the HOHS 
    • Teacher Planning and ensure that it corresponds with Lessons. 
    • Ensure teachers are in their classes teaching. 
    • Ensure that here are textbook lists and it is kept up to date. 
    • Set up teacher portfolio lists. 
    • Keep up with curriculum changes and make sure teachers implement it. 
    • Timetable 
    • Day to day running of the school. 
    • Extra lessons timetable 
    • Internal exam timetable 
    • Trial exam timetable 

    Co-Curricular Program 

    • Library 
    • Excursions – Ensure that Excursions are planned, structured and complementary to Academic offering. 
    • Tours – Initiate Tours that can complement the academic offering. 
    • Camps 

    BE 

    • BE 
    • Liaise with BE Head to ensure Academic Performance of BE Scholars 
    • Discipline 
    • Wellbeing 

    Support Services 

    • Ambassadors/ Prefects 
    • Pastoral Care 
    • Psychologists 
    • Lair 
    • Career Counselling 
    • Liaise Academic support programmes -Children that need to be assessed. 
    • Parent Liaison 
    • Setting up of Parent/Teacher interviews. 
    • Organize parent evenings and parent teacher interviews. 
    • University Liaison 
    • Communication of Scholar progress – Including Scholar support for university entrance and guidance. 

    REQUIREMENTS:

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor of Education (Essential)
    • Post Graduate Certificate in Education (Senior Phase)

    Training:

    • Cambridge International: Subject and Marking Certificates (Essential) UNDEF - Undefined (Essential)

    Skills:

    • People Skills

    Experience:

    • Teaching Experience ideally in a Cambridge School - 5 years (Essential)
