When it comes to employment, the North West is no stranger to taking the lead, as it ranks amongst some of the highest paying provinces in South Africa. And one of the strongest economies in the country.

The main economy of this province is generated through the mining industry. This industry generates more than half of the provinces gross domestic province and provides jobs for a quarter of its workforce.

The chief mineral mined in its various localities is gold, amongst other precious minerals. Gold is mined at Orkney and Klerksdorp, uranium at Klerksdorp, platinum mined at Rustenberg and Brits and diamonds mined at Lichtenburg, Christiana, and Bloemhof.

Most of the money made in the Northwest is gotten through activities carried out in Klerksdorp and Potchefstroom. Klerksdorp is the province’s, economic heart.

The northern and western parts of the province have sheep farms and cattle and game ranches. The eastern and southern region grow crops like maize, sunflowers, tobacco, cotton and citrus fruits. The entertainment industry and casino complex also contribute to the Northwest’s economy.
