    Payroll Specialist

    Key Responsibilities:

    Payroll Processing:

    • Process end-to-end payroll for employees on a regular schedule (monthly);
    • Ensure accurate calculation of salaries, overtime, bonuses, and any approved ad-hoc payments;
    • Account for deductions such as taxes, benefits, retirement plans, and garnishments;
    • Manage employee benefits and Leave.

    Compliance and Reporting:

    • Ensure payroll compliance with the relevant Acts, legislations, regulations and SARS;
    • Prepare and file payroll-related reports, including tax filings and year-end documents; 
    • Stay updated on changes in SARS tax codes and labour laws that may affect payroll processes.

    Payroll Systems:

    • Maintain and update payroll records, including new hires, terminations, salary changes, and employee benefits;
    • Work with payroll software and systems to ensure data integrity and accuracy;
    • Troubleshoot and resolve payroll discrepancies or issues related to payments, benefits, and deductions.

    Employee Support:

    • Respond to employee inquiries related to payroll, including discrepancies, deductions, and benefits;
    • Assist in reviewing payroll statements and ensuring all questions are addressed promptly.

    Reconciliations and Audits:

    • Conduct payroll reconciliations to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies;
    • Assist with internal and external audits related to payroll processes.

    Confidentiality and Data Protection:

    • Handle sensitive employee payroll information with the utmost confidentiality;
    • Adhere to data protection laws and company policies regarding the security of payroll data.

    Minimum Requirements

    To qualify, you will need:

    •  A relevant Degree in Accounting/Finance or related specialist discipline or equivalent at NQF level 7; 
    • At least 5 years’ experience in payroll or accounting administration.

    Added advantage:

    • Relevant working experience gained in a Higher Education Institution in South Africa;
    • Accreditation by the South African Rewards Association / Certified Payroll Practitioner (SAPA) designation / SARA professional designation or an alternative accounting/payroll professional qualification;
    • Demonstrable experience with relevant payroll systems such as ITS, SAP, or PeopleSoft.

    Dean: Arts and Humanities - (1924)

    • The Dean is a member of the University’s Senior Management team and will be directly accountable to the Deputy Vice Chancellors: Academic and Research & Innovation. As the head of the Faculty and as an academic and administrative leader, the Dean is responsible for strategically positioning the Faculty and pursuing the Faculty’s strategic goals as per the University’s Institutional Operating Plan.
    • The Dean will lead the Faculty while ensuring it fulfils UWC’s mission, especially in meaningful transformation. The Dean is responsible for forging links with relevant industries, donors, funders and government; implementing learning and teaching strategies in the Faculty to ensure the overarching planning, development, innovation, continuity,  and amendments to academic programmes to provide quality educational outcomes and financial viability; leading and guiding the research and innovation programs of the Faculty; implementing all of the Faculty’s policies and associated strategies; and ensures implementation of the Framework for the Scholarship of Engagement for Societal Impact and any other institutional policies and frameworks. The Dean further oversees the Faculty’s student enrolment processes to attract and retain students as per UWC’s enrolment targets.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Candidates must have a doctoral degree in Arts & Humanities or a relevant professional discipline. They must possess senior academic leadership experience and be appointable, at a minimum, at the level of Associate Professor or its equivalent. A strong track record of research outputs, including publication in recognised journals/ books; learning and teaching; fundraising and stakeholder engagement; research and community engagement and successful postgraduate supervision, is critical for this position.
    • Candidates should also have extensive knowledge of the current issues in Higher Education and the Department of Higher Education and Training’s Policy Framework on the Internationalisation of Higher Education in South Africa. As the leader of the Faculty’s research agenda a prospective Dean must be recognised as a researcher of high academic standing.  It would be advantageous if a candidate qualifies for NRF-rating.

    • Extensive experience and proven competence in academic leadership and management
    • A reputation as a scholar supported by extensive accredited peer reviewed publications
    • A track record of successful postgraduate supervision
    • Evidence of expertise and national standing, and definite international presence in his/her discipline (as well as definite international presence required at Full Professorship level)
    • A demonstrated capacity for fundraising.
    • Evidence of the integration of community engagement for societal impact with learning and teaching and/or research
    • Experience in generating research grants (required at Full Professorship level).

    • Extensive experience of social science research on topics relevant to the core focus of PLAAS 
    • A demonstrated capacity for fundraising from international philanthropic foundations
    • Extensive experience and proven competence in academic leadership and management 
    • An excellent track record of accredited peer-reviewed publications

    Analyst Programmer - (1859)

    The key role and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

    • Participate in Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) phases with a focus on development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of applications and solutions
