MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

• The Emergency Care Assistant (ECA) will practice as clinical assistants within the emergency medical care and rescue environment thereby replacing the Basic Ambulance Assistant Course as the entry qualification into the emergency medical services.
• This position is an entry-level qualification and recognises the key competencies required of Emergency Care Assistants (ECAs) who will work under the guidance of Emergency Care Technicians, Emergency Care Practitioners and Medical Officers in a variety of contexts.
• Holders of this qualification will operate mainly in and around the ambulance, within wide ranging contexts, including rural, urban, military, coastal, corporate, mass gatherings, homes and workplaces. In general, the Emergency Care Assistant will provide a supportive service within the pre-hospital context.

• Report near misses, slips, and adverse events

REQUIRED EDUCATION

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION

• American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers

• Provide basic shift  administration services

REQUIRED EDUCATION

• ESSENTIAL EDUCATION: Critical Care Assistant (CCA) or National diploma in emergency medical or Diploma Emergency Medical Care.
• DESIRED EDUCATION: Successful completion of training related to Clinical Practice Guidelines published by the Health Professions Council of South Africa will be advantageous. If not compliant with the clinical practice guidelines at the time of application you will be required to complete this training during your probation period if successful in your application.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

• ESSENTIAL MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Newly qualified ALS  with  operational EMS experience 
• DESIRED EXPERIENCE: 1 years ALS operational experience

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

• To receive and prioritize emergency & non – emergency telephone calls from the public by dispatching the relevant emergency service providers.
