    Registry Clerk

    Requirements :

    • Grade 12 Certificate. No experience required.

    Duties :

    • Attend to clients. Handle telephonic and other enquiries received. Receive and register hand delivered mail/files. Receive all mail, sort, register and dispatch them. Distribute notices on registry issues.
    • Opening and closing files according to record classification system. Filing/storage, tracing (electronically/manually) and retrieval of documents and files. Complete index cards for all files. Open and maintain Franking machine register. Frank post, record money and update register on a daily basis.
    • Undertake spot checks on post to ensure no personal post is included. Lock post in postbag for messengers to deliver to Post Office. Open & maintain remittance register. Record all valuable articles as prescribed in the remittance register.
    • Hand delivers and signs over remittances to finance. Send wrong remittances back to sender via registered post and record reference number in register. Keep daily records of letters franked. Electronic scanning of files. Sort and package files for storage and distribution.
    • Compile list of documents to be disposed of and submit to the supervisor. Keep records for closed documents. Follow authorised procedures in performing registry duties, and must observe security, privacy and confidentiality at all times in accordance with Information Security Policies.

    Requirements :

    Duties :

    Control Biodiversity Officer Grade A: Biodiversity Management Services

    Requirements :

    • Grade 12 plus Honours degree (NQF level 8) in Natural Resource Management, Nature Conservation, Conservation Biology, Biological Science, Natural Science, Wildlife Management, Environmental Management or relevant qualifications as recognised by SAQA.
    • Minimum of 6 years’ experience working in a relevant Biodiversity/Wildlife Management/Nature conservation environment. Compulsory registration with SACNASP. A valid driver`s. License.

    Duties :

    • Manage and administer the Scientific Technical Component, remain current with relevant validation methods, technical standards and techniques. Develop operational plan, action plan, financial and assets management plans.
    • Decision support function between the directorate and different role players and units within GDEnv (Administer the flow of EIA/Compliance & Enforcement, Biodiversity Permits files, etc). Manage the coordination and input into development of relevant policies, legislation, regulations, strategies, and guidelines. Participate, consult and coordinate the submission of the Directorate inputs to national legislation/policies.
    • Project management of science-policy related projects of the Directorate, including the Biodiversity Offset projects. Science-Policy interface function: management of the Science-Policy forums, establishment and strengthen partnerships that supports biodiversity and conservation. Biodiversity awareness raising through international calendar days.
    • Compilation of the sector reports of the directorate and submit monthly, quarterly and annually to DFFE and other relevant organisations. Collaborating with various stakeholders within the GDEnv, other spheres of government, parastatals, academic institutions, the public and various interest groups.

    Scientist Production Grade A-C:Systems Ecology

    Requirements :

    • Grade 12 plus B.Sc. Hons Degree (NQF Lev 8) in Ecological Science, Landscape Ecology, Remote sensing; Natural Resource Management, Natural Science, Ecological Systems, or Environmental Science or relevant qualifications as recognized by SAQA.
    • 3 years’ post qualification relevant experience in ecological remote sensing, drone imagery, GIS mapping, planning and modelling. Ecological spatial monitoring, planning and modelling, Python programming. Compulsory registration with SACNASP. Valid driver’s license.

    Duties :

    • Develop and implement methodologies, policies, systems, and procedures. Monitor project/program performance. Perform scientific functions with basic tasks that require some interpretation in the presence of an established framework. Provide scientific support and advise.
    • Undertaking research and analysis of the nature and complexities of the physical world to identify discoveries that would improve people's lives and ignite scientific knowledge for society, including facilitation of interdisciplinary advances in systems thinking, synthesis, and modelling. Develop and test theory of ecosystem organization; detect and manage emergent properties; and predict responses to disturbance, including biodiversity risks and disasters.
    • Conduct and apply remote sensing, python programming, drone imagery or other GIS systems in ecosystems monitoring, analysis, interpretation and modelling. Contribute and supervise the implementation and maintenance of key ecosystems monitoring. Coordinate ecological systems spatial planning and mapping. Collate and storage of ecological systems data and information management. Perform scientific analysis and regulatory functions.
    • Provide evidence-based decision support in the Department by evaluating and providing comment for protected areas management, compliance and enforcement purposes, permitting and environmental authorisation applications. Supervision of staff and develop working relations with client base under supervision. Create basic public awareness of the systems ecology dynamics. Provide accurate data and information as requested. Conduct basic analysis of scientific data and compile reports.
    • Familiarisation with existing technologies and procedures. Conduct basic and applied research. Publish and present research findings. Research/literature studies on science to improve expertise. Participate in intra and intergovernmental platforms on matters pertaining to systems ecology

    Administrative Clerk: Asset Management

    Requirements :

    Duties :

    • Render asset management clerical support. Compile and maintain records (e.g. asset records / databases). Conduct annual physical asset verification and distribute asset inventory lists to officials to sign, keep proper records of all signed asset inventory lists.

    Control Environmental Officer: Grade A

    Requirements :

    • Grade 12 plus Honours degree (NQF Level 8) in Environmental Management, Law or Natural/Physical Science. Minimum of 6 years relevant experience within environmental field as recognized by SAQA. Valid driver’s license. 

    Duties :

    • Coordinating, managing and conducting inspections / investigations for the Department with regard to contraventions of the environmental legislation administered / enforced by the Department in particular NEMA, ECA, NEMWA and NEMAQA.     Environmental Officer Specialised Production

    Requirements :

    • Grade 12 plus Honours degree (NQF Level 8) in Natural, Physical/Environmental planning fields.

    Duties :

    • Attend to the environmental complaints received within the Gauteng province in relation to matters that impact on the environment and covered under the NEMA and SEMAs. Coordinate, manage and undertake inspections / investigations for complaints received by the Department. Review / drafting of notices and ensuring completion of process.
    • Co-ordination, co-operate and assist with other directorates, other levels of government and other departments, stakeholders and agencies on joint work.
    • Draft effective and legally defensible notices, directives and legal correspondences. Preparing site inspection and back to office reports for inspections conducted. Interpret and apply relevant legislation to activities encountered during inspections to determine its legality.
    • Present findings of the inspections and recommend appropriate enforcement action(s) where necessary on non-compliances observed during inspections/investigations. Effectively utilize the information management system to manage the work within the Directorate.

    Re-Advertisement- Environmental Officer Production Grade A - C

    Requirements :

    • Grade 12 plus National Diploma (NQF Level 6) or Bachelor’s degree (NQF Level 7) in Environmental Management/Sciences, Engineering, Chemisty or relevant Natural Sciences qualifications as recognised by SAQA.

    Chief Director – Compliance and Enforcement

    Requirements :

    • Grade 12 plus an undergraduate qualification (NQF7) as recognized by SAQA in Law/ Environmental Law/Natural Science or relevant qualification within the related field.
    • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience at a senior managerial level within compliance and monitoring sector. Experience in the field of Environment. Valid driver’s licence. 

    Duties :

    • Manage and provide strategic leadership to the Chief Directorate and contribute to the relevant programmes and responsibilities within the Chief Directorate. Oversee the management and provision of reactive compliance and enforcement services.
    • Oversee the provision of compliance monitoring and enforcement services. Manage and administer the provision of compliance, monitoring and enforcement with regard to national environmental management biodiversity act.
    • Ensure effective management of teams and programmes within the department that monitor and promote compliance with environmental legislation across the different environmental sectors, including waste and pollution, air quality and biodiversity management
    • Monitor and promote compliance with the National Environmental Management Biodiversity Act (NEMBA) 2004 and other related regulations. Oversee resources (Human, Financial, Equipment/Assets)

    Requirements :

    • Grade 12 plus an undergraduate qualification (NQF level 7) as recognised by SAQA in the field of Financial Management.
