    Senior Data Specialist

    Responsibilities:

    • Develop and promote common data systems across the Network
    • Strengthen data management community of practice
    • Manage the specification and acquisition of common SAPRIN data systems
    • Contribute to the development and implementation of SAPRIN nodal project data management plans
    • Develop and promote data quality assessment and assurance standards across the network
    • Manage the SAPRIN Core infrastructure
    • Definition and harmonization of common data elements
    • Regular submission of the core data by SAPRIN nodes
    • Quality assurance of contributed core data elements
    • Storage of core data elements on SAPRIN cloud infrastructure
    • Formalise SAPRIN operational framework
    • Establish and maintain SAPRIN Data Repository
    • Document and load datasets onto the repository
    • Assisting users to register on the repository
    • Interact with data users to design datasets and assist with data analysis
    • Provide repository usage statistics and user satisfaction ratings
    • Maintains industry awareness of data system related products and provides feedback to SAPRIN nodes and management on data system productivity/performance issues
    • Design and implement new technology and data system features
    • Publish findings in peer review literature
    • Develop training material for longitudinal data analysis of population dynamics
    • Training SAPRIN data managers, SAPRIN Project partners and SAPRIN Data Repository users.
    • Own capacity building
    • Plan direct, and coordinate activities of designated projects to ensure that goals of projects are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters
    • Contribute to the development of data management strategies during projects

    CoreRequirements: 

    • Four-year tertiary qualification (Hons) in Data Science, Computer Science, or related quantitative discipline. 
    • Minimum 5 years of experience in data management in health research, clinical trials, or public health setting.
    • Experience with large datasets and or longitudinal datasets. 
    • Demonstrated experience in supervising teams of data officers. 
    • Experience in capacity building and training in data management practices. 
    • Track record of contributing to large, multi-site or national-level projects. 
    • Strong proficiency in data management systems (e.g., REDCap, OpenClinica, DHIS2, ODK, or similar platforms). 
    • Familiarity with data integration, interoperability, and standard coding systems (e.g., ICD-10, HL7, CDISC).

     Advantages: 

    • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Data Science, Computer Science, or a related quantitative discipline.
    • At least 10 years’ experience in Data Management, including 3 years’ experience in leadership roles.
    • Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., R, Stata, SAS, or SPSS)

    Senior Research Technologist : Laboratory Assistant

    Responsibilities:

    The successful candidate will provide technical support to research projects and laboratory activities, including:

    • Performing routine cell culture procedures and maintaining immortalised cell lines under BSL-1 and BSL-2 conditions.
    • Supporting research projects through cell-based assays and optimisation of routine endpoint assays using established protocols.
    • Preparing reagents, buffers, and laboratory solutions required for experimental work.
    • Maintaining accurate laboratory records, experimental documentation, and quality control data.
    • Ensuring the cell culture laboratories remain clean, organised, and compliant with GLP and laboratory safety regulations.
    • Assisting researchers and postgraduate students with technical laboratory procedures and experimental workflows.
    • Supporting the implementation of SOPs and routine laboratory quality assurance processes.

    Requirements

    Core requirements:

    • BSc or BTech in Molecular Biology, Biomedical Science or similar qualification
    • 2 -3 years’ hands-on experience in cell culture and aseptic technique under BSL1 and 2 laboratory settings
    • Proficiency in molecular and culturing various primary and secondary cell lines
    • Familiarity with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
    • Maintaining experimental records (lab book) with accuracy and working with protocols and SOP’s
    • Stock and reagent maintenance and logging
    • 2-3 years’ experience in training staff and students in aseptic technique
    • Understanding of quality control processes within a laboratory setting
    • Proficient in MS Office for data recording and reporting.
    • 2-3 years’ experience with basic cell culture end-point assay optimization and routine screening using established protocols

    Advantages:

    • BSc (Hons) in Molecular Biology or related field
    • Experience with isolating and culturing primary cell cultures
    • Experience with techniques such as DNA, RNA extraction, qPCR, or ELISA
    • 1 -2 years’ hands-on experience in under BSL2 laboratory settings
    • Experience of working in a GLP-accredited laboratory or similar environment

    Research Technician: Laboratory Assistant

    Responsibilities:

    • Cleaning of laboratories, storeroom, fridges, cupboards, equipment, floor and drawers in all laboratories.
    • Disinfection of laboratory working areas.
    • Sealing and storage of waste boxes prior to collection by waste company.
    • Collection of glassware from all training laboratories.
    • Washing, drying and autoclaving of all glassware.
    • Proper storage of clean glassware.
    • Assist CATIR staff with the Identification of expired reagents, buffers and chemicals for disposal by the contracted waste company.
    • General assistance with all laboratory activities where applicable.
    • On-going support of colleagues and students on research procedures and/or laboratory techniques
    • Accurately log and maintain laboratory data in manual and electronic systems
    • Perform correct sample logging, labeling, and tracking to ensure traceability
    • Maintain complete, legible, and timely laboratory records in line with documentation standards
    • Ensure data integrity by adhering to quality control and record-keeping procedures
    • Report and correct documentation errors in accordance with laboratory protocols

    Core Requirements:

    • Grade 10
    • 3-4 years’ hands-on experience assisting with daily laboratory operations and sample processing
    • Familiarity with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
    • Familiarity with basic laboratory techniques (e.g., pipetting, centrifugation, microscopy, pH testing)
    • 3-4 years’ practical experience in operating standard laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, microscopes, and autoclaves
    • 3-4 years’ experience maintaining laboratory cleanliness and adhering to sterility and safety standards
    • 3-4 years’ working knowledge of laboratory safety procedures, PPE use, and waste disposal regulations
    • Exposure to inventory management, stock control, and laboratory supply handling
    • 3-4 years’ experience supporting senior laboratory technicians or scientists during testing and experiments
    • Experience in preparing laboratory equipment, instruments, and workstations for daily testing

     Advantageous:

    • Experience of working in a SANAS-accredited laboratory or similar environment
