    Operators (Secondary Processes) (JHB East Rand)

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

    • The purpose of this role is to contribute towards activities performed within the FBI and CRP day-to-day activities, as an Operator reporting to the Shift Supervisor.

    SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDED BUT NOT LIMITED TO

    • CRP and FBI must be 95% available and have no breakdowns in order to meet targets.
    • Ensure that there is full compliance with the SHEQ procedures for people, equipment and products.
    • Report incidents & near misses timeously.
    • Implement methods & suggestions from the process leader (i.e. waste reduction, productivity, and cost management).
    • Check the copper content in leach residue before transferring to the Arc Furnace – range between 2% to 5% of copper.
    • Check the physical contents of products before transferring to other departments to avoid production delays. This includes checking the weight and batch numbers before transferring to another department.
    • Ensure that the correct sample sizes are given to slag for sampling – 30 mm.
    • Carbon content in ash product should be less than 0.3%.
    • Ensure that product blended is homogenous and carbon content is more than 30%.
    • Operation of mercury retort in safe manner. Ensure all the FBI and CRP equipment are operated in a safe manner and all the process parameters are monitored timeously. Always wear PPE correctly and advise team members accordingly.
    • Leaching – leach of 2 ton of atomized copper per day.
    • Incinerate 3,6 tons of carbon per day.
    • Electro-winning – 2 tons of copper per week.
    • Drives timeous and accurate reporting through production logs & performance feedback on shift basis.
    • Ensure that daily production targets are achieved & feedback is provided to the Supervisor.

    • A completed Matric qualification.

    SKILLS/ COMPETENCIES

    • Computer literate - MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
    • Communication skills - able to communicate process related information to others. 
    • Risk identification skills - able to identify risks.

    Metallurgical Clerk - JHB East Rand

    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

    • Accurately reflect the metal flow through every Smelter production activity on the business management system (SAP) through data capturing.

    SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDED BUT NOT LIMITED TO

    • Data validation of materials produced.
    • Daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly stock verification.
    • Carry out SAP transactions to accurately reflect the production activities (MIGO, HUMO, HU02, MBST, COPAWA, ZUPIM0165, ZRPIM1500, COR1, COR2. COR3, IW21, HUCANC, IHI01, ME51N, ME53N, MB21, ZRHRPT004).
    • Conduct SAP reporting (ZSTOCK, Z_METAL_SPLIT, ZQM0090, ZRPIM00320, MB51, COWBHUWA,ZDPIM100, ZRPIM0090).
    • Ensure that SAP information for metal is transparent and auditable.
    • Follow up on ITMs on a daily basis for weight and assay finalisation.
    • Report metal variances and investigate with Foreman/Supervisor.
    • Account for all material in the Plant, including spillages and samples.
    • Assists in the management and maintenance of the metal balances for the smelter, and provide prompt feedback for any variance and deviations that are encountered (assays, dry weights and weight discrepancies).
    • Confirm weights (according to SAP) before consumption.
    • Capturing of production log-sheet and allocation of batch numbers for items produced (ITMs).
    • Daily review of assays to manage out-of-tolerance outcomes in metal balance.
    • Adherence to the Amira code, including check-in—check-out practice.

    Requirements

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • A completed Matric qualification.
    • A National Diploma in Metallurgy/ Chemical Engineering.
    • Candidates who have acquired at least 1-2 years’ of experience within a Smelter Operations environment will be given first preference.

    SKILLS/ COMPETENCIES

    • Computer software proficiency: Microsoft Office (Advanced Excel), SAP, Isometrix and QLIKVIEW.
    • Communication - ability to convey information.
    • Administration skills - ability to effectively manage paperwork for metal accounting and recording.
    • People networking skills able to build meaningful relationships within the departments.
    • Problem solving skills - ability to identify and offer effective solutions to daily accounting and stock recording problems.
    • Accuracy and attention to detail.
    • Technical and problem-solving skills.
