    Field Service Engineer Refrigeration Technologies

     

    The Field Service Engineer will assume the responsibility for the execution of planned and unplanned After- Sales/Service activities in order to sustain and strengthen the ongoing relationship between our customers in our core business areas namely GEA Equipment, Solutions and Service throughout the Equipment, Solution or Service product life cycle.
    This role demands an aptitude to deliver high quality workmanship, communication effectiveness and the ability to foster trusting relationships with colleagues and clients to ensure the retention of our customers.

    Responsibilities / Tasks

    • The Field Service Engineer typically executes the tasks of installation and commissioning of equipment, planned and unplanned maintenance and repairs, servicing of equipment as per maintenance schedules, rebuilding of equipment and upgrades & modernization of equipment. These activities are performed mostly on the customer’s site but based on the complexity and operational requirements can also be done in-house in our workshops. The position also entails the identification of customer
    • needs, service opportunity leads and communication thereof to the Service Sales and Service Branch teams, supervisory tasks and customer training.
    • S/he will be the face and first contact of GEA to and with the customer. S/he will adhere to high ethical standards, and comply with all regulations/applicable laws and corporate governance. Their efforts place an equal priority on the after sales delivery to BA Equipment and BA Solutions.
    • The Field Service Engineer will operate in but not limited to the “location” as indicated above.

    The key responsibilities & priorities for the role:

    • Deliver service execution of the highest quality.
    • Be professional in their dealings and communication with the customer.
    • Identify service opportunities and leads and communicate to the responsible GEA personnel.
    • Be the “face” of the organization.

    The tasks and responsibilities for the role include:

    • Troubleshooting of GEA equipment and other manufacturer’s equipment.
    • Performing of planned and unplanned services and maintenance and repairs to equipment of all types and sizes as per applicable GEA SOP’s and maintenance manuals.
    • Installation and Commissioning of Equipment.
    • Assist in Service Project Execution activities.
    • Overhauling of equipment.
    • Performing of tasks as per the defined and strict schedule to meet the deadline.
    • Carry out site visits, audits and monitor site performance.
    • Gathering and classifying data using various measuring equipment applicable to the equipment. Read gauges and instruments, and adjusts mechanisms such as valves, controls, and pumps to control level of fluid pressure and distribution in systems.
    • Operate various equipment in compliance with legal guidelines.
    • Testing of malfunctioning systems and components using electrical, mechanical, digital, and pneumatic controls.
    • Coordinate with other departments for various purposes like budget expenditures, deadlines and other technical support.
    • Preparation of estimates for repairs and maintenance, installation and commissioning of equipment.
    • Maintaining of records of repairs and maintenance of equipment requiring future service as per maintenance schedules, corporate governance, legal requirements and customer requirements.
    • Coordinating of work schedules with other departments and shops in order to keep inconvenience to a minimum.
    • Providing of technical direction to service personnel.
    • Adhering and following all HSE governance of GEA and customers.

    Your Profile / Qualifications

    • 3-5 years experience in Ammonia Refrigeration
    • Candidate are likely to have earned a Certificate or Diploma or relevant qualification as an Artisan in one of technical fields relevant to our organization.
    • Correspondingly, the candidate should prove his/her ability to read and understand basic schematics and diagrams in his/her relevant field of expertise.
    • The candidate should have sound knowledge of the Health and Safety acts and legal requirements pertaining to the industry and preferably have completed Health & Safety training courses.

    Sales Engineer Valves and Pumps

    Responsibilities / Tasks

    • Lead Sales activities, for Valves & Pumps and prioritize initiatives
    • Use and implement Sales tools – CRM, etc.
    • Operate in partnership with the service team to identify “up-sell” and “cross-sell” opportunities, to maximize revenue and improve overall customer experience.
    • Effect sales of GEA Valves & Pumps equipment services for GEA Africa; representing the company in a professional manner
    • Travel to potential and existing customers - securing additional orders / agreements for new machines Valves and Pumps. The customer visits shall include necessary presentations / demonstrations as required to enhance the sales opportunity and promote GEA.  These visits need to be planed on CRM and minutes included.
    • Actively promote smaller scale projects (Upgrades / Modernization)
    • Assist with large projects / orders – provide quotes, follow up and ensure the sale is executed in a timely manner.
    • Participate in the negotiation of offers, quotations, and contracts (T&Cs)

    Your Profile / Qualifications

    • Technical or commercial qualification
    • Min 2 years’ experience in technical support role
    • Sound Knowledge of GEA Sales Tools
    • Fluent in the English Language (Speak, Read and Write)
    • Microsoft Office Experience Essential

    Service Projects Engineer (Hybrid Sales and Execution)

    We require an accountable and self-driven individual who will assume the responsibility for sales, control and project management of Service Projects ensuring consistency with company strategy, commitments, and goals. S/he will demonstrate communication effectiveness, good discipline, and the ability to foster trusting relationships with colleagues and clients.

    Responsibilities / Tasks

    • Engineer, cost and propose installations forming part of the scope of work requirements.
    • Conduct project Sales i.e. meeting with clients, establishing their requirements, developing a solution, costing the engineering scope, developing proposals, presentations, etc. and then presenting & negotiating the proposal with the client(s).
    • Review solution and engineering for SANS compliance, engineering principles, GEA standards, client contract requirements and related specifications.
    • Conduct and arrange plant surveys to establish current installed equipment and to identify areas of improvement
    • Formalize a detailed quotation based on the client requirements, best practices & providing a well-engineered solution
    • Promote the GEA brand and values.
    • Coordinate preparation and delivery of project deliverables, engineering, operating & maintenance documents.
    • Plan and implement a project program, including defining the project philosophy, activities, milestones, and resource requirements, as per the project & client requirement.
    • Evaluate engineering changes, specifications and drawing releases and update accordingly with the drawing and technical department.
    • Controlling external contractors in order to fulfill the task at a client site taking all Health & Safety specifications into account.
    • Keep track of ETA’s, equipment delivered and material required in order to meet deadlines.
    • Coordinate preparation and delivery of project deliverables, design, operating and maintenance documents based on sales contract
    • Monitor quality of work carried out on site and ensure quality assurance of external contractors.
    • Prepare project completion documentation as hand over for client acceptance.
    • Ensure that pre-start up documentation and commissioning reports are completed by commissioning staff.
    • Monitor and report on sales & project statistics.
    • Follow up and ensure that the invoicing and administrative closing of projects are completed.
    • Ensure that commissioning is done to GEA standards and within the performance requirement as per the sales contract.
    • Identify additional business opportunities

    Your Profile / Qualifications

    • Candidate is likely to have earned a qualification in the Mechanical Engineering field (Diploma or Degree) with refrigeration (preferably) and thermodynamics (Compulsory) and/or the candidate should have extensive knowledge and expertise from working in the refrigeration industry.
    • Strong understanding of the refrigeration process and the associated engineering (Especially the ammonia refrigeration process)
    • It would be to the candidate’s advantage if s/he has experience and qualifications in engineering sales & project execution and the successful candidate will be a seasoned professional with a minimum work experience of 2-3 years in project sales and/or execution.
    • Ability to select equipment and to do basic design checks to ensure that solutions proposed to clients will perform as required.
    • Ability to read an electrical wiring diagram and a mechanical drawing.
    • A strong knowledge of the OHS Act and experience with site safety files.
    • Strong computer and communication skills (Microsoft excel, Microsoft project etc)
    • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
    • Ability to formalize detailed business letters and documents.
    • Must be willing to travel nationally, cross border and work after normal business hours, if and when the work on hand require this.
    • Must be self-driven and have the initiative to explore different avenues to get tasks completed.
