    Civil Designer - RER3 CC JHB

    Hatch's Dynamic Earth Solution Group (DES) is looking for a Civil Designer to join the team. Reporting to the Practice Lead you will support projects globally. This specific role will see you working on a major rail upgrade project in Canada, performing cable containment and utilities design.

    Responsibilities:

    • As a Civil Designer, you will be required to provide engineering deliverables and technical support. The main duties and responsibilities as part of this position include:
    • Cable Containment modelling and design
    • Utilities modelling and design
    • Earthworks and grading design 
    • Design access roads for mining, energy, and infrastructure related facilities
    • Design and model drainage and stormwater management systems
    • 3D model preparation and drawings production
    • Close collaboration with other disciplines such as structures, mechanical, piping, and electrical
    • Perform conceptual layout work 
    • Develop design details 
    • Check drawings prior to release 
    • Coordinate and review clash detection of models with other discipline models

    Education, Experience, attributes, and Skills:

    • Civil Engineering Technology Diploma from an accredited college
    • Minimum 5+ years' experience in a similar role
    • Cable containment and/or underground utilities modelling experience
    • Experience in civil infrastructure, site planning, linear alignment design
    • Strong design software skills including demonstrated experience with Civil 3D and AutoCAD. Other software skills which will be considered useful include OpenRoads, Revit, ProjectWise and Microsoft Office.
    • Work experience in completing design assignments for linear infrastructure projects and mine sites 
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills are needed
    • Thorough understanding of inter-discipline requirements
    • Problem solving attitude

    Senior Geotechnical Engineer - JHB

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Lead advanced geotechnical studies with the delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope
    • Perform conceptual and detailed geotechnical engineering design
    • Participate in scoping requirements for proposals
    • Grow and lead the local geotechnical discipline in the Africa, Europe, Middle East, India and Russia region
    • Participate in and contribute to design reviews
    • Provide and/or coordinate training for resources assigned to projects

    • 10+ years’ experience in relevant geotechnical field
    • Experience in seismic design is considered an asset

    Senior Materials Technician - Cape Town

    Requirements: 

    • National Diploma or B Tech in Civil Engineering with 10 years’ experience in road construction materials laboratory testing and should include at least 5 years’ experience in managing a road construction materials laboratory. 
    • Professional registration with ECSA and experience on Western Cape Provincial Road projects will be an added advantage. 
    • Previous experience as a senior materials technician or laboratory manager will be beneficial. 
    • The applicant shall be computer literate and well acquainted with MS office (Excel and Word)

    Job Description: The duties of the Senior Materials Technician shall include the following: 

    • Act as a Supervisor of the Client’s Acceptance Control roads laboratory on site:
    • Work closely with the acceptance control laboratory manager and discuss issues, progress, quality of work and test result/reports
    • Attend proficiency testing to be arranged by the laboratory manager and examine test procedures performed in accordance with the relevant test methods and report to the Resident Engineer (RE)
    • Liaise between the Assistant Resident Engineer (ARE) and the laboratory regarding test requests submitted
    • Ensure that the laboratory is performing within an agreed testing timetable and follow up on outstanding test results
    • Scrutinize test results and discuss inconsistencies with the laboratory manager
    • Arrange for monthly duplicate testing and reporting to be done by four different laboratories, including the acceptance and process laboratories
    • Asses the workload of the laboratory through EIU

    Act as a Client’s Representative overseeing the Contractor’s Process Control roads laboratory on site:

    • Have regular visits to the process control laboratory and discuss issues, progress and quality of work with the laboratory manager
    • Ensure that the laboratory manager is performing proficiency tests.  Attend these tests as deemed necessary and report to the Resident Engineer (RE)
    • Examine mix designs prepared by the contractor and advise the RE
    • Ensure that the laboratory submits copies of their process test results to Hatch for information
    • Ensure the contractor is inspecting their work before they submit it to Hatch for inspection, testing and approval
    • Liaise with the laboratory regarding material samples to be submitted for verification testing by the acceptance laboratory
    • Involve the laboratory with duplicate testing

    General responsibilities:

    • Report directly to the Resident Engineer (RE) as frequently as possible
    • Assist the RE with administrative duties as may be required
    • Assist the RE and his assistants with measurement of completed work as may be required
    • Prepare and submit monthly materials and laboratory reports to the RE
    • Assist the engineer and laboratory manager with mix designs where required
    • Discuss work not complying with the specifications with the RE
    • Assist ARE’s (ARE’s responsible) with inspections of completed work where required
    • Be involved with trial section construction and assessment
    • Prepare earthworks and layerworks progress sheets
    • Prepare and update material testing data packs for as-built purposes in accordance with the client’s requirements

    Senior Piping Engineer [- JHB

    The Senior Piping Engineer will be part of an engineering team providing project and engineering services to large and small projects. The Lead Piping Engineer defines and develops the plan to meet the Project requirements and manages a team of piping engineers and designers to ensure regulatory code compliance and quality of deliverables.  In addition, the Senior Piping Engineer assists in achieving the required project schedules and costs and resolution of all technical issues related to the discipline.

    As a successful candidate, you will;

    • Ensure that all work designed or supplied by the Piping engineering discipline complies with the relevant sections of mandatory health and safety standards, including any pressure piping regulation or code referred to within the required jurisdiction for the Project with due consideration of relevant client engineering standards
    • Develop a thorough understanding of the project requirements as they relate to scope, execution strategy, cost and schedule with the Engineering Manager
    • Prepare a list of engineering deliverables and time based functions to facilitate the planning and control of the engineering budget
    • Develop the Piping work plan for insertion into the Project specific execution plan and develop and maintain the Project’s scope of work documentation and revise as required during the design evolution
    • Manage and review the Piping engineering work packages associated with all deliverables and time based functions to ensure that budgets and schedules are being met, and take corrective action if necessary
    • Review and approve Piping technical deliverables
    • Assist in the preparation and development of project specific procedures
    • Manage Piping system requirements to achieve the Project results and monitor effectiveness
    • Represent the Piping practice in project engineering co-ordination meetings
    • Ensure co-ordination, between the Piping team and other disciplines of all activities being performed as the design evolves
    • Ensure that quality audits of engineering work are carried out in accordance with Project procedures and the quality assurance plan and maintain technical documentation
    • Participate in the selection of Project piping candidates
    • Participate in HAZOP reviews
    • Ensure resolution of Piping issues during Project lifecycle, including planning phase, design, procurement, fabrication, construction and commissioning
    • Promote and maintain the application of ethical and professional practices in the execution of Piping engineering work
    • Adhere to and promote the Hatch corporate safety culture.

    You bring to the role;

    Essential

    • Strong leadership skills
    • BSc/B.Eng degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
    • Registration as a professional engineer
    • Minimum eight years piping engineering experience with a minimum five years project engineering experience or equivalent relevant experience
    • Ability to manage and motivate individuals to attain quality, cost and schedule objectives

    • A high degree of understanding of inter-discipline dependencies related to the discipline

    SAP PS and Omega PIMS Support Analyst - JHB

    Summary

    The SAP Project Systems and PIMS Project Management Support Analyst (in short, the Support Analyst) supports the Hatch iPas PM application. iPas PM is currently built on the SAP PS (Project Systems), CPM (Commercial Project Management) and Timesheets modules, as well as other non-SAP modules. In the future this will include the Omega 360 PIMS module.

    iPas PM provides functionality for Prime Contract Management on all Hatch projects. The Support

    Analyst will play an important role in user support, with the responsibility to assist users, trouble shoot and take on tasks to ensure that users are able to manage their prime contracts in an efficient manner. They are responsible for problem ownership and resolution, combined with superior customer satisfaction and service level attainment, for any support requests for iPas PM. 

    The Support Analyst interacts directly with end users to help them troubleshoot and resolve technical problems with iPas PM. They assume full ownership of the support request, ensuring it is resolved in a timely manner, or escalated appropriately to other support analysts, IT, the Functional team or Functional Support for review and input.

    The Support Analyst will support users on every continent and must be flexible as to working hours. Working hours will frequently overlap North American or Australian time zones.

    Responsibilities

    • Manage, support, co-ordinate and resolve issues relating to iPas PM and iPas TF
    • Provide first level support by identifying and resolving system problems and assisting end users in the use of iPas PM for prime contract management and iPas TF for Time
    • Responsible for problem management activities such as issue resolution and root cause analysis
    • Work on and close out tickets in the Hatch Zendesk System, while adhering to SLA’s, standards, and processes for systems at Hatch
    • Manage your assigned ticket queue, and escalate any issues as required
    • Identify and document proactive solutions for recurring issues
    • Monitor integrations with external systems
    • Assist with system testing of enhancements and fixes
    • Assist with creation of user and support documentation
    • Maintain current knowledge of relevant technologies as assigned

    Qualifications
    Skills, Education and Experience

    • BA or BS degree in Business or Business and Computer Science / Information Systems or the equivalent Business and Project Management / Project Cost Control application experience
    • 3 years of hands-on experience using or supporting a Project Management / Project Cost Control application
    • Understanding of concepts surrounding project cost control   
    • Experience in ticket / issue resolution and best practice approaches to user support
    • Excellent problem solving/analytical skills
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and customer focus
