    Minimum Requirements:

    • N3 to N6 Technical qualification with three years’ experience
    • Previous experience working with technical facility maintenance & support services in a university research & teaching environment will be an advantage
    • Basic understanding of biological research equipment, processes & concepts
    • Fully computer literate with abilities to effectively use software packages such as Microsoft Office ver10 & 11
    • A valid South African driver’s license is essential with a good/excellent driving record

    • Manage the procurement and maintenance of specialized biological research equipment and instruments
    • Develop & maintain good working relationships with academic staff and post graduate students
    • Security and storekeeping
    • Assist with maintaining Occupational Health and Safety standards in the school’s research and teaching facilities
    • Supervise the School’s eco-stores, audio-visual and teaching computing equipment
    • Assist with the management of fleet vehicles and growth facilities in the School

    Lecturer.2.01

    Main purpose of the job:

     

    • The main purpose of this position is to coordinate and deliver teaching and assessments in the FAMH courses, namely Foundations of Public Health and Health Systems Science, the Science and Art of Health and Learning and Person, Family and Community.

    Key performance areas:

    • Coordination, teaching, assessment and administrative activities for the FAMHXXXX courses as allocated by the Head of Department.
    • This will involve liaising with clinical and community sites, students, staff and administrators in the relevant Schools and Departments involved in the courses.

     

    • Delivery of learning events and assessments as allocated by the Head of Department.
    • Serve on School, Faculty and University committees as necessary, including the MBBCh 1 and 2 Curriculum Committee.
    • Participate in individual and departmental research activities.
    • Take part in self-development and further education activities as appropriate.
    • Supervise undergraduate and post-graduate research as appropriate.

    Minimum requirements for the position:

    • Health Professions degree or Masters equivalent qualification in a Health related field, including Medical and Health Humanities
    • At least three years’ experience teaching in a healthcare-related field in a Higher Education Institution or three years’ experience working in a discipline related to the course content

    Advantage:

    • Knowledge of the South African health services;
    • Previous experience with coordination, teaching and assessment in Higher Education Health Professions programmes,
    • Post-graduate qualification in Higher Education

    Associate Lecturer / Lecturer

    Responsibilities:

    The successful candidate will facilitate the learning processes in the Department by supervising research, as well as developing, teaching and coordinating courses in the postgraduate programme in the following areas:

    • Theory of interpreting
    • Interpreting models
    • Modes and types of interpreting
    • Conference interpreting
    • Intersectionality of interpreting
    • Institutional interpreting
    • They will also contribute towards transformative pedagogies and innovation within the Department and to the work of the Department and the School as a whole.
    • Conducting research, along with developing and maintaining national engagement/research/creative outputs, is also a part of the post.

    Requirements

    • Ideally, the successful candidate should have some experience in teaching in higher education, academic supervision and research. Further, they should have three to five years of industry experience at national and international level (detailed in an interpreting portfolio).
    • To be considered for appointment to the Lecturer post, candidates must have concluded a PhD with a research focus that has relevance to the field of Interpreting.
    • Those applying for the Associate Lecturer post must be registered in a relevant PhD programme and must have proof of progress towards the attainment of a PhD.
