    Engineer: Strategy - Middelburg

    Job Specification: 

    • The Engineer: Strategy must have a good understanding of project coordination over the complete span of business activities, including production, financial, commercial, logistics and other processes. For all projects, the Engineer: Strategy must have some understanding of the impact of the project on aspects including finance, safety, environment, governance and manufacturing. The role is therefore based on a huge variety of different projects in different areas of the business.

    Tasks include, among others:

    • Assist project owners in the formulation of projects in accordance with corporate directions.
    • Organise and monitor inter-connected projects.
    • Liaise with the Acerinox Strategy Department to ensure full visibility and coordination of the Columbus projects.
    • Liaise with the Columbus Finance Department as well as Columbus Manufacturing to ensure the correct benefit calculations for all projects, as well as for the follow-up of the projects.
    • Assist with the coordination of cross-project activities, and specifically manage and coordinate the availability of (especially human) resources shared between the projects teams.
    • Assist project managers and project team members.
    • Assist with the development and control of deadlines and activities.
    • Assist with change, risk and resource management.
    • Assist with the assessment of program performance and aim to maximise the overall benefit of the program.
    • Prepare reports for project owners, Columbus senior management, and Acerinox senior management.

    Requirements

    Person Specification

    • Qualification: BEng, BSc, BIT or equivalent;
    • At least 2 years in a project management or similar environment;
    • Excellent computer literacy;
    • Working knowledge of program/project management software (PowerBI, Primavera P6, MS Project etc.) is a strong advantage, with PowerBI experience the highest priority.

    Favourable Requirements

    • Project management qualification (PMP, PPM, MPM);
    • Project management experience;
    • Experience of project management in continuous improvement;
    • Management qualifications (MBA);
    • Management experience.

    Technician Production Mech Lab - Middelburg

    Description

    The incumbent will be responsible for the overall quality of the testing performed in the area-Mechanical Laboratory, as well as for continuously identifying areas of improvement related to testing and process optimization. The main purpose of this role is to ensure that the quality of testing performed in the Mechanical Laboratory is in line with the required standard of the Laboratory and the business as a whole business. The incumbent, will further be responsible for conducting non-routine test work, continuously optimizing processes, developing new tests methods, improving exiting test methods, solving technical problem and ensuring that all relevant systems are updated and changes implemented accordingly.

    Requirements

    Key Performance Indicators include the following: 

    • Ensuring that the quality of testing performed in the Mechanical Laboratory is in line with the required standards of the business and the laboratory.
    • Conducting non-routine test work, continuous optimization of processes, development of new test methods, improving existing test methods, solving technical problems and ensuring that all relevant systems are updated and changes implemented accordingly.
    • Perform validations, identify criteria for revalidation as well as compile validation documentation.
    • Commission equipment and instruments in line with the required Laboratory practices and procedures.
    • Maintain and improve current quality control systems to ensure validity and accuracy of testing.
    • Perform the required internal calibrations and/ or verifications on relevant equipment.
    • Evaluate quality critical suppliers

    Qualification:

    • Minimum qualification required is a BEng (Metallurgy and Material Science / BSc. (Hons) Material Science.

    Experience:

    • 2-4 years' relevant laboratory experience at technician level in testing and quality management.

    Competencies/Skills:

    • Possess knowledge of mechanical and metallurgical testing and processes, statistics and quality control systems, testing equipment principles, root cause analysis, method development and method validation, as well as data analysis and interpretation
    • Must be computer literate
    • Experience as a Technical signatory in an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory will be an added advantage
    • Technical skills required; Mechanical and metallurgical testing and equipment, statistics, quality principles, in depth problem solving and root cause analysis
    • Basic people management skills required include conflict resolution, coaching and mentoring and written and oral communication
    • Personal competencies required; time management, initiative, attention to detail, integrity, self-discipline, proactive, sound judgement, ability to work independently and within a team.

    Control & Instrumentation Technician (C&I) - Middelburg

    Description
    The C & I Technician is responsible to maintain and optimize all electrical and C & I Systems in responsible area, within budget, by managing breakdowns, processes and equipment, spares, procedures and quality files and documents.  Liaise with customer, i.e. production and mechanical colleagues on a daily basis to achieve the global delivery and quality targets set by the Company for the section.

    PERSON SPECIFICATIONS:

    •  Minimum qualification of N6 Diploma, S4 or B. Tech in Electrical/Instrumentation Engineering with at least 5 years (for the senior C & I, and 3 years for the Junior C & I)  of experience in a metals manufacturing  industry:  furnaces, hot- and cold rolling, and/or other heavy engineering industries.
    •  The ideal candidate would have done programming and fault finding on Siemens, PLC's, Rockwell or ABB (Siemens S5, S7, or 1500, TIA Portal);
    •  The ideal candidate must have fault finding and programming/commissioning experience on AC and DC variable speed Drives (ABB/Siemens/Nidec);
    •  The ideal candidate would also be able to do programming and fault finding on SCADA Systems (Intouch & WinCC)
    •  Experience on Electrical Distribution i.e. motor testing and electrical fault finding (525V)
    •  Sound knowledge of process instrumentation and PID Control loops
    •  Knowledge of radiation detection systems will be an advantage
    •  Knowledge of gas installations as well as ladle and vessel burners will be advantageous
    •  Ability to do report writing and data trending or analysis for reliability engineering will be advantageous
    •  Ability to work under pressure and meet work deadlines with attention to details

    Requirements
    JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

    •  Provide first line maintenance support to ensure 24 hours coverage in order to enhance plant availability, product quality and cost;

    Engineer: Process Metallurgist - Middelburg

    Description

    • Determines product characteristics based on customer or specification requirements
    • Develops process parameters to meet these requirements
    • Sets the standards for product realisation (rules, procedures)
    • Monitor the product and process for quality and throughput
    • Setting up process parameters for new products to be made
    • Do disposition decisions on non-conforming product
    • Implement business systems to support the above
    • Optimise product throughput (quality, yield, volume, cost)
    • Training of metallurgical EITs(Engineers in Training) for the business

    Requirements

    • BSc or B Eng. in Metallurgy with minimum of 4/6 years experience

    • Working experience in heavy/large manufacturing processes related either to pyro-metallurgy, casting and hot rolling/forming), quality assurance and control, project management.
    • Experience with POLC principles and QCDSM.

    Senior Analyst - Engineering Services (Middelburg)

    Description

     Monitor the performance of the maintenance management system

    • Provide expertise in identifying, evaluating and developing systems requirements and procedures

    • Must have proficient analytical, writing and communication skills and a thorough knowledge of computer systems
