    Blood Bank Qualified Technician/Technologist

    Introduction

    SANBS has an opportunity for a Trainee/Qualified Technician - Technologist. The incumbent will be responsible to perform routine testing functions in the blood bank including but not limited to, compatibility, postnatal and preliminary transfusion reaction investigations.

    Job description

    Key Performance Areas:

    •  Achieve Operational Objectives and Targets within area.
    • Accomplish Instrument and Laboratory Maintenance objectives in accordance with SOP specifications.
    • Achieve Quality compliance in accordance with SOP specifications.
    • Ensure general functions have been carried out within specified timeframes.

    Job Specific Requirements:

    • Overtime as and when required
    • Night shift and weekend duties as rostered
    • Occasional local and national travel
    • General physical health and reasonable endurance and mobility
    • Detail conscious
    • Proficient eye-sight
    • Person cannot be colour blind

    Donor Care Officer

    Job description

    Primary Purpose of the job:

    To assess the acceptability of a Donor according to a set protocol and perform all the procedures including Whole Blood, Whole Blood Autologous/Designate, Double Red Cell and Apheresis Platelet collections according to Standard Operating Procedures. In addition ensures collection targets are achieved. These functions are performed routinely.

    • Manage Clinic Staff on ad hoc bases to ensure good relations, teamwork, employee commitment and a professional service delivery.

    • The incumbent will be required to be on his/her feet for a lengthy period, to carry loads of up to 14kg and assist with loading and off-loading vehicles and able to climb stairs.
