    Construction Manager - Construction Industry

    Job Description

    • RPO Recruitment's client, a leading and reputable building and civil contractor in South Africa is currently seeking a senior-level Construction Manager to join their experienced team on one of their latest building projects in Potchefstroom, North West.  This is a permanent employment opportunity.

    Responsibilities:

    • Manage the construction schedule and implement corrective actions to mitigate delays.
    • Coordinate daily site operations, supervising teams and subcontractors effectively.
    • Allocate and manage resources (labour, plant, and materials) to meet production targets.
    • Track progress against set targets and report on project performance.
    • Oversee subcontractor appointments and monitor their work quality and compliance.
    • Manage procurement and control of materials, plant, and equipment.
    • Maintain accurate site records, including cost tracking and supporting documentation.
    • Ensure adherence to safety regulations and company/client-specific HSE policies.
    • Uphold quality standards and ensure compliance with ISO and project procedures.
    • Report regularly to the Area/Contracts Manager and the professional team.

    Requirements:

    • BSc or BTech in Construction Management or similar qualification
    • Minimum of 8 years’ solid experience in building projects, preferably large-scale building projects
    • Pr CM registration with SACPCMP advantageous
    • Solid understanding and experienced with Principal and Subcontract Agreements, JBCC, NEC, GCC, JBCC
    • Proficiency in CCS Candy
    • Understanding of BOQ’s and rates
    • Good communication and people skills

    Resident Engineer - Consulting Industry

    Job Description

    • RPO Recruitment’s client, a reputable civil engineering consulting firm in South Africa is currently expanding their team and looking to appoint an experienced Resident Engineer to join their team on one of their latest projects in Cape Town. This position is offered as a limited duration contract of approximately 5-6 months.

    Responsibilities:

    • Oversee daily site activities to ensure construction is completed in accordance with approved designs and specifications.
    • Monitor contractor performance, quality of workmanship, and adherence to project timelines.
    • Implement contract administration functions, including progress monitoring, site instructions, variation orders, and payment certifications.
    • Liaise regularly with the contractor, client, project team, and relevant stakeholders.
    • Chair and minute site meetings, including progress and technical coordination meetings.
    • Maintain accurate site records, including daily diaries, quality checklists, and test results.
    • Enforce health and safety requirements in line with legislation and project standards.
    • Provide technical support and resolve design-related queries or unforeseen site issues.
    • Compile and submit progress reports to the Project Engineer or Team Leader.
    • Support the close-out process, including final inspections, snag lists, and handover documentation.

    Requirements:

    • BSc/BEng/BTech/National Diploma in Civil Engineering
    • Minimum of 5 years’ post-graduate experience in civil engineering construction supervision
    • Pr Eng/Pr Tech Eng/Pr Techni Eng registration with ECSA essential
    • Experience in general civil infrastructure projects (roads, bulk and reticulation water, sewer and stormwater, urban upgrades, etc.).
    • Solid understanding of contractual procedures (e.g., GCC, FIDIC, or NEC).
    • Proficient in MS Office; working knowledge of MS Project or other scheduling tools beneficial.
    • Strong communication, report writing, and interpersonal skills.
    • Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to project sites in the Cape Town region.

    Quantity Surveyor (Roads & Earthworks) - Construction Industry

    Job Description

    • RPO Recruitment's client, a well-established civil engineering contractor in Gauteng is currently seeking a technically skilled and experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their dynamic team in Johannesburg as soon as possible. 

    Responsibilities:

    • Prepare accurate bills of quantities, pricing schedules, and tender submissions
    • Support subcontractor procurement processes including scope definition, tender evaluation, and appointment
    • Measure and value work on-site and off drawings for monthly valuations and final accounts
    • Prepare and monitor project cost reports, budgets, and forecasts
    • Process and track variation orders and assist in managing contractual claims
    • Contribute to progress claims and payment certificates for both subcontractors and clients
    • Attend site meetings and assist with project status reporting
    • Ensure proper cost documentation and compliance with project procedures
    • Collaborate with engineers, site personnel, and clients to ensure cost-effective project delivery

    Requirements:

    • BSc or BTech in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management
    • Between 5 and 8 years' post-graduate experience in quantity surveying, ideally in a civil contracting environment
    • Previous exposure to roads, earthworks, concrete structures, or infrastructure projects is highly beneficial
    • Strong skills and proficiency in MS Excel and CCS Candy
    • Sound understanding of standard construction contracts (e.g., FIDIC, NEC, JBCC)
    • Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications accurately
    • Proactive and self-motivated with strong analytical and numerical skills
    • High level of attention to detail and accuracy
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
    • Team player with a willingness to learn and take on more responsibility

    • Assist in preparing tender and contract documentation, including bills of quantities.
    • Measure quantities on-site and from drawings for interim valuations and final accounts.
    • Support the procurement process for subcontractors and materials.
