    Machinist

    Purpose of the role

    • Able to use both Conventional and CNC Machines to machine metal and non-metal components safely and adhere to the company’s HSE regulations. Maintenance of the machines and report any faults to the supervisor.

    Your responsibilities

    • Sets up and operate CNC lathes, CNC Milling Machines, Conventional Lathes, and Conventional Milling Machines, to machine metallic and non-metallic workpieces.
    • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings or job orders for product specifications. Can interpret sequence of operations, tolerances, and tooling instructions such as fixtures, feed rates, cutting speeds and depth of cut.
    • Ability to utilize precision measuring and set up devices, including dial callipers, micrometres, dial indicators, and other specialized tools as required by the part configuration or specification.
    • Maintains machines and work areas daily by lubricating, oiling and cleaning according to applicable company and lean (5S, TPM) standards.
    • May operate more than one machine, in close proximity, during longer workpiece cycle time.

    What you bring:

    • Turner Machinist Trade Test
    • Minimum 10 years machining experience in heavy machining.
    • Familiar with a variety of machining concepts, practices and procedures.
    • Ability to use various hand tools, power tools, overhead cranes and hoists, and fork lifts
    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts of basic trigonometry and geometry. Ability to use and interpret measuring instruments.
    • Ability to do programming on Siemens 840DSL Shopmill & Shopturn, Fanuc and Haas Controls
    • Conventional Machining Experience of medium shafts and large shafts

    Field Service Technician

    • Role Purpose 
    • To perform advanced inspections, maintenance, troubleshooting, and commissioning of thickeners, flotation cells, disc filters, belt filters, and Pneumapresses to ensure optimal plant performance, reliability, and compliance with design and safety standards.

    Your Responsibilities:

    Inspection & Condition Assessment

    • Conduct detailed mechanical inspections of thickeners, including rake mechanisms, drive units, torque systems, gearboxes, underflow systems, and structural components.
    • Perform flotation cell inspections including rotors, stators, bearings, drive assemblies, air systems, and tank integrity.
    • Inspect disc filters, belt filters, and Pneumapresses for wear components, cloth condition, hydraulic systems, drive systems, sealing arrangements, and slurry distribution systems.
    • Develop and update inspection templates and deviation lists for solid-liquid separation and flotation equipment.

    Fault Finding & Rectification

    • Identify mechanical, hydraulic, and operational faults affecting plant performance.
    • Troubleshoot breakdowns and implement corrective maintenance to minimize downtime.
    • Supervise and perform component replacements, alignments, drive adjustments, and hydraulic repairs.
    • Provide recommendations for equipment upgrades and process improvements to enhance reliability and throughput.

    Commissioning & Performance Testing

    • Assist with installation verification to ensure equipment is assembled according to OEM specifications and Quality Control Plans (QCP).
    • Commission equipment and verify operation within design parameters and safety standards.
    • Conduct performance tests and provide detailed commissioning and close-out reports to clients.

    Client & Commercial Responsibilities

    • Provide technical support to site sales teams by identifying service and upgrade opportunities.
    • Maintain awareness of financial implications by controlling site costs, subcontractor work, and service hours within approved budgets.
    • Ensure clear communication with clients, managing expectations and providing technical guidance.

    Safety & Compliance

    • Adhere strictly to all site safety standards and FLS safety policies.
    • Be prepared to work in demanding plant environments, including confined spaces and extended shifts when required.

    What you Bring: 

    • Mechanical Technical Qualification (N3 with Red Seal Trade Test) minimum requirement / National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
    • Minimum 3–5 years’ hands-on experience in minerals processing equipment maintenance and inspection.
    • Proven experience working on one or more of the following equipment:
    • Thickeners (conventional and high-rate)
    • Flotation cells
    • Disc filters
    • Belt filters
    • Pneumapress pressure filters
    • Strong understanding of mechanical systems including drive assemblies, hydraulic systems, lubrication systems, gearboxes, bearings, pumps, and slurry handling equipment.
    • Ability to conduct detailed equipment inspections, identify wear patterns, mechanical defects, misalignment, vibration issues, and performance deviations.
    • Knowledge of process plant operations related to solid-liquid separation and flotation circuits.
    • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, GA drawings, and technical manuals.
    • Computer literacy in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
    • Strong report writing skills, including compiling inspection reports, deviation lists, and technical recommendations.
    • Willingness to work extended hours, and travel outside South Africa for extended periods.
    • Valid driver’s license and medically fit for site work.

    Foreman Machining

    • FLSmidth (Pty.) Ltd Chloorkop Service Centre. is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Foreman Machining to lead and supervise a team of machinists in our facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and high-quality production of machined components, maintaining safety standards, and optimizing workshop operations.

    Your responsibilities

    • Supervision and Leadership: Lead, train, and motivate a team of machinists, ensuring adherence to production schedules and quality standards. On time delivery within planned budget.
    • Production Oversight: Plan, organize, and monitor daily machining operations, including setting up machines, programming, and tooling.
    • Quality Control: Implement and enforce strict quality control procedures, conducting regular inspections of machined parts to ensure they meet specifications and drawings.
    • Technical Expertise: Provide technical guidance and support to machinists, troubleshooting complex machining issues and optimizing processes.
    • Maintenance and Safety: Oversee the maintenance and repair of machining equipment, ensuring all machinery is in good working order and that safety protocols are strictly followed.
    • Resource Management: Manage raw materials, tools, and consumables efficiently, ensuring their availability and proper usage.
    • Reporting: Prepare regular reports on production progress, equipment status, and team performance.
    • Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, and efficiency gains within the machining department.
    • Housekeeping: Ensure that the Service Centre is clean and presentable to effectively perform the daily duties.
    • Collaboration: Liaise with other departments such as engineering, quality assurance, and planning, assembly & Fabrication to ensure seamless production flow.

    What you bring

    • Qualification: Trade Test.
    • Experience: Minimum of 15 years of experience in a medium to heavy machining environment, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or foreman role
    • Technical Skills: Proficient in operating and programming various CNC and conventional machining equipment (e.g., lathes, milling machines, boring mills & vertical lathe). Strong understanding of G-code and M-code.
    • Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of machining processes, materials, tooling, and quality control techniques. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
    • Leadership: Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate, develop, and effectively communicate with a diverse team.
    • Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving production issues.
    • Safety: Strong commitment to workplace safety and a thorough understanding of safety regulations and best practices in a manufacturing environment.
    • Computer Skills: Proficiency in relevant software (e.g., CAD/CAM, ERP systems).
    • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
