- Hello…an exciting new opportunity has just become available in our HINT, Risk & Compliance area. We are looking to recruit a It Risk Specialist.
- The IT Risk Specialist as a second line of defence role will be responsible for assisting HINT subsidiary teams with maturing the internal control environment through the embedding of adequately designed and effectively operating IT controls. Key focus areas will include IT Governance risk assessments, IT general controls, continuous monitoring and related controls self-assessments.
- The IT Risk Specialist will execute specialised IT risk assessments in line with best practice frameworks COSO, COBIT, SANs 18 and DMBOK and apply a risk-based prioritisation approach in implementing IT Risk Management plans across all Hollard International operations. Operational / Technical:
- IT risk assessments in accordance with the approved HINT ERM framework.
- Arrange and attend risk assessment kick-off and close-out meetings.
- Develop a sound understanding of business processes, risks and controls including relevant regulatory and accounting issues.
- Assesses the design adequacy and effectiveness of the control environment and identify control gaps and opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Perform strategic digital reviews across information technology areas such as, data governance, disaster recovery and business continuity.
- Identify process, information and control gaps and seek additional information if necessary.
- Document detailed working papers.
- Document findings and discussion with client in terms of factual correctness – asks for support where necessary.
- Review own working papers for quality and completeness before sending to the Head of Risk and Compliance for review.

- Supporting HINT subsidiaries with the enablement of Continuous Controls Monitoring (CCM) through validation and clearing of exceptions and data quality validations.

Job Purpose
- The ST Head of Actuarial Function is responsible for expressing an opinion to the Board on specified short-term actuarial matters within Hollard, as well as providing advice to the Board on actuarial issues. The role will cover The Hollard Insurance Company (THIC) and Hollard Specialist Insurance Limited (HSI) licenses.
Key Responsibilities
The ST HAF role will continuously evolve to keep pace with the changing business environment and actuarial needs. At a minimum, the responsibilities will include:
Expressing an opinion to the board of directors on the reliability and adequacy of the calculations of Hollard’s technical provisions (on the prudential supervisory reporting basis and IFRS published reporting basis), and minimum and solvency capital requirements, including on:
- The appropriateness of the methodologies and underlying models used, and assumptions made.
- The sufficiency and quality of the data used in actuarial calculations.
- Best estimate and associated assumptions against experience when evaluating technical provisions (i.e. review experience investigations and it’s feed into assumption setting).
- The accuracy of the calculations.
- The appropriateness of and impact of assumed future management actions and the effect of risk mitigation instruments.
- The appropriateness of approximations or judgements used in the calculations due to insufficient data of appropriate quality.
Expressing an opinion to the board of directors on the appropriateness of the asset-liability management policy, the underwriting policy and reinsurance and other forms of risk transfer policy; as well as the adequacy of reinsurance and other forms of risk transfer arrangements.
Evaluating and providing advice to the board of directors, senior management and other control functions on:
- Where Hollard uses the standardised formula to assess its risks, why that regulatory capital model is an accurate reflection of the insurer’s own risk profile.
- The development and use of internal models for internal actuarial or financial projections, or for own solvency projections as in the Own Risk and Solvency (ORSA).
- Hollard’s Investment policy.
- The financial soundness position, including the impact of any proposed dividend declaration or payment.
- The actuarial-related matters in the ORSA.
- The internal controls relevant to actuarial matters.
- The actuarial soundness of the terms and conditions of insurance contracts (new products as well as reprices or amendments to existing products).
- Review and sign-off on the Prudential Authority regulatory quantitative and qualitative returns.
- Assist with applications to the Prudential Authority to change license conditions.
- Provide an opinion on the liquidity shortfall indicator (LIQ) within the regulatory quantitative returns.
- Attending any board meetings, board committees’ meetings or other meetings where required.
- Attending meetings/on-site visits and presenting to the Prudential Authority when necessary.
- Deriving appropriate stresses and scenarios with management input for the budget process and the ORSA.
- Other services of an actuarial nature including capital allocation, financial modelling, asset strategies and risk management, as required.

- Review and challenge the robustness of the non-life reinsurance structure/ programme and reinsurance optimization as part of the reinsurance adequacy review or as part of annual reinsurance renewals.
