    Mechanical Engineer

    Description
    MAIN FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

    • Collaborate with the data centre team to understand, develop and approve the data centre mechanical system designs for new data centre construction and system enhancement projects.
    • Designs will include DX Cooling systems, chilled water systems, direct and indirect free cooling systems.
    • Review and approve basis of design documents, capacity calculations and mechanical schematics.
    • Review and approve all Commissioning and system testing strategies for each project.
    • Constant enhancement of mechanical systems to ensure high level of efficiency.
    • Infrastructure design, implementation and testing to deliver a concurrently maintainable, cost effective solution supporting 99.999% electrical uptime and 99.99% mechanical uptime.
    • Conduct working methods to ensure all SLA and MSA's are achieved.
    • Ensure all parts of the designs can be monitored and connected back to the BMS system for overall system monitoring and management.
    • Review, approve and provide all hand over documentation to the Data Centre operations team.

    Data Centre Operations

    • Review and approve all mechanical maintenance procedures.
    • Create safe work procedures for all mechanical maintenance to be done on all systems.
    • Ensure applicable planned and corrective maintenance is managed in accordance to ensure customer MSA's and SLA's are achieved.
    • Ensure all maintenance and systems complies to local legislation and standards.
    • Provide training to the operational team on the design and operation principles of the mechanical systems.

    Compliance

    • Maintain compliance in accordance to all relative policies and procedures
    • Support the HR department in achieving the organization developmental plan deliverables within agreed timelines
    • Meet agreed inter-departmental OLA (Operational Level Agreement)
    • H&S monitoring and corrective action to meet statutory compliance, SLAS and good business practice
    • Implement company and departmental policies, processes and work instructions as per the agreed quality and timeline/ RFS

    Critical System Management

    • Conduct working methods to maintain agreed PUE levels
    • Task finalization and report accurately, as per agreed format, quality and within the agreed timelines
    • Provide national technical support to operational data centres
       

    Requirements
    SKILLS REQUIREMENT

    • Excellent technical design and calculation abilities.
    • Knowledge of electrical, control, fire and BMS systems will be an advantage.
    • Advanced AutoCAD, Revit and 3D modelling skills will be an advantage
    • Effective communication skills, active listener ability to understand requirements

    Network & Cabling Design Engineer

    Description

    • The role has a direct line report to IT systems manager, but also performs functions for the Teraco Design Team, under leadership of the National Technical Manager, and the Interconnect Infrastructure Systems Manager.  This role will be required to travel between Teraco’s operational and new development sites, to oversee implementation.

    OBJECTIVES

    MAIN FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
    Network Design and Implementation (Operations & New Construction & Fitout)

    • To document Teraco networking standards, and to ensure that work meets all related engineering, planning, and operational standards
    • designs and maintains the topology of Teraco’s network set-up, for both new construction/fitout facilities and existing operational facilities.
    • Design, test and ensure correct implementation of routing and switching solutions
    • To identify potential network issues and risks, and to provide workable technical solutions to mitigate such risks
    • To develop contingency and fail-over network topologies to maintain dependable network throughput to serve Teraco’s business needs best
    • To monitor network performance during both the operational and implementation phases, to take proactive and corrective action as needed
    • To work with the IT Network Engineer team in configuring and implementing network design and changes; This may require the incumbent to configure the routing and switching configurations, where there may be network engineer resource constraints.
    • To provide mentoring and training in design solutions and additional systems training on in-place systems
    • IT Network troubleshooting and support.
    • Design & configure switching to maximize network efficiency and security.
    • Creating diagrams of computer network topologies that show how devices are connected 
    • Logging and updating calls via the ticketing system.

    Cabling Design and Implementation (New Construction and Fitout)

    • Collaborate with the data centre design team and Interconnect Infrastructure Systems Manager to understand, develop, and design the data centre cabling infrastructure for new data centre construction facilities and existing facility enhancement projects.
    • Coordination and design capabilities for all phases from conceptual/schematic design through construction drawings.
    • The design development must be done to ensure the requirement off all network cabling for IT, BMS, Security, and specific client specifications (OIMP projects) are achieved.
    • Work within a team environment to ensure standards are met and that all technology systems are incorporated into the overall system design
    • The design development will also include the routing infrastructure requirements for all low voltage cabling from different networks from the patch rooms to the device locations.
    • Issue cabling infrastructure drawings and specifications for tender and review costing received.
    • Issue cabling infrastructure drawings for construction and attend kick off meetings with contractor pre installation.
    • Inspect contractor installation on site including quality of installation on routing and patching, against the defined standards.
    • Develop as built drawing pack with the architect once the cabling installation is complete

    Requirements

    Project Manager

    Purpose of the Role

    These may vary in both size, technical scope and complexity. Projects will include but are not limited to:

    • Large custom client deployments, ranging from colocation deployments to entire DC hall deployments;
    • Medium size customer deployments, where requested to assist the Solutions Architect and Service Management Team;
    • Function as the on-site PM for the Service Delivery Managers on all Johannesburg based, non-standard deployments;
    • Implementation of security solution projects including both biometric and CCTV;
    • Office fitouts or upgrades;
    • Implementation of IT projects, including cabling, access points, switching etc;
    • Small to medium scale civil infrastructure projects;
    • Small to medium scale mechanical and electrical infrastructure projects;
    • Solar PV installation projects

    Note: this is an office / on-site based role, and is not a remote working opportunity.

    Objectives

    Main Functions of the Job:

    • Act pro-actively taking the lead on delegated projects and be the point of contact for all internal and external stakeholders with the project team, including with liaison with clients;
    • The PM is not required to act as technical decision maker, but is required to involve the technical experts or functional owners on decision making where required;
    • Ensure that the project outcomes and requirements are adequately defined and that the needs of the users and all other stakeholders are fully and properly understood and accounted for. This includes a detailed analysis of contractual requirements, to ensure all obligations are met in project outcomes;
    • Review and understand client standards and requirements, and ensure the project deliverables are delivered in compliance with these;
    • Ensure that Operations and Infrastructure Departments have the necessary processes in place to assume operational responsibility at go-live, based on the Teraco processes, client requirements and the technology;
    • Establish good working relationships with suppliers;
    • Work with the suppliers/subcontractors to establish integrated project plans and ensure the suppliers/sub-contractors meet the agreed project quality and project timelines
    • Identify/document project risks and work with internal and external stakeholders in mitigating the project risks;
    • Conduct project feedback meetings with clients, and formulary document decisions and agreed actions.
    • Compile project documentation, include Microsoft Project Plan, Risk Register, Project Minutes/ Action plans/ Email trails;
    • Retain a document repository for the project, based on the project scope and risk;
    • Establish and communicate the overall budget and timescales for projects;
    • Ensure service orders and purchase orders are raised and distributed appropriately;
    • Ensure purchase orders are placed with suppliers within required timeframes;
    • Ensure quality, information security, environmental, safety and energy management objectives and design considerations are implemented in all projects, and that scope and testing is compliant to the design standards and the management system objectives.
    • Ensure projects are managed efficiently and are executed in accordance with Teraco’s operational project life cycle model.
