    Senior Officer: Application Configuration Specialist (Post Level 9) - 2 positions

    Duties and responsibilities:
    Technical Responsibilities

    •    Test software against user specification.
    •    Interpret user specification to system requirements.
    •    Provide guidance and support to peers and subordinates.
    •    Provide specialist (second line) user support of UFS applications and root cause analysis.
    •    Responsible for access management of web applications and custom systems.
    •    Configure and optimise web applications and custom systems.
    •    Create and maintain user and administrative guides.
    •    Responsible for application implementation, which includes system and web application evaluation and implementation.
    •    Match specific application functionality to business requirements with the aim to optimise the use of UFS applications that is in use at the University. 
    •    Transfer UFS application knowledge to the training division to optimise the use of UFS applications that is in use at the University.
    •    Responsible for request management, including to: 
      •     Interpret business requirements.
      •     Match specific application functionality to business requirements.
      •     Evaluate whether the proposed solution meets the business requirements.
    •    Responsible for quality assurance of custom-developed applications, including to: 
      •     Ensure that the developed application complies with the business requirements. 
      •     Recommend improvements in terms of functionality and usability. 
      •     Initial data/content population. 
    •    Identify, communicate, track and report on possible impacts, risks and issues, and resolves it in a timely manner.
    •    Responsible for the development life cycle to resolve any business-related issues.
    •    Take part in the functional and or technical design sessions with the development teams.
    •    Resolve application issues and/or liaise with the development team to resolve issues.  

    Client Relationship Management

    •    Respond to user email and or telephone inquiries.
    •    Meet and liaise with clients to identify their needs, organisational goals and objectives.

    Inherent requirements:

    •    A Bachelor’s degree or an Advanced Diploma/B.Tech degree/Postgraduate Certificate on NQF level 7 in Computer Science/Information Technology/Information Science or a related field OR a relevant 3-year National Diploma on NQF level 6 in Computer Science/Information Technology/Information Science or a related field.
    •    Minimum two (2) years’ relevant working experience related to the duties and responsibilities.

    Recommendation: 

    •    Two (2) years’ experience in one or more of the following areas:  
      •     Application administration.  
      •     End-user support of applications.  
      •     Quality assurance of applications.  
      •     Service delivery .

       Knowledge and experience of UFS applications, implementation and principles.

    •    Knowledge of any of the following types and/or systems:
      •     Content management systems, preferably Sitefinity.
      •     Document imaging software, preferably ImageNow.
      •     Enterprise cntent management systems, preferably Mocrosoft SharePoint.
      •     Customer relationship management systems, preferably Microsoft CRM.
      •     IT service management, preferable ServiceNow

    Postdoctoral Research Fellowship 2023: Ethnopharmacology, Molecular Pharmacology and Biochemistry - 2 positions

    Duties and responsibilities:

    •    Conduct innovative research in the following areas: Pharmacology research, ethnopharmacology, analytical pharmacology drug discovery and development as well as assist in teaching and training of Pharmacology postgraduate students and participate in all departmental academic programs and activities.
    •    Author/co-author at least three (3) publications outputs per year in the form of DHET– accredited scholarly journal articles or books/chapters in books. The renewal of the fellowship beyond the first year depends on satisfactory performance and the submission of an annual progress report.
    •    Initiate projects and seek funding for them
    •    Register and reside as postdoctoral research fellow at the UFS and participate in relevant activities of the School of Postgraduate Studies and the Directorate of Research

    Eligibility requirements:

    •    Open to all South African and foreign nationals for full-time research at the University of the Free State. 
    •    Graduated with a PhD degree in a relevant discipline within the last five years.
    •    Successful applicants may not hold full-time salaried employment during the fellowship.
    •    Successful applicants must be able to relocate to the UFS for the duration of the fellowship. This is a residential fellowship: the successful applicant is required to spend 100% of her/his postdoctoral period at the UFS.

    Value of the fellowship:

    •    R 230,000 annual fellowship.
    •    R 30,000 additional research expenses fund.

    Lecturer: Creative Arts and IsiZulu Education - 2 positions

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    •    Teach undergraduate and Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) modules in IsiZulu and Creative Arts Education and other foundational modules in education.
    •    Participate in the work integrated learning programme of the faculty (teaching practice).
    •    Ensure active involvement in research activities of the faculty.
    •    Contribute to curriculum development in the field of Creative Arts, IsiZulu Education specifically, and Languages Education in general.
    •    Supervise and provide consultation sessions for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
    •    Work in a team with colleagues within the faculty.
    •    Contribute to leadership and administrative tasks related to the faculty.

    Inherent Job Requirements:

    •    A PhD in Creative Arts (Drama/ Music/ Movement Studies/ Film Studies, etc.) and/or IsiZulu Education on NQF Level10 (for a permanent position).

     Or 

    •    A Master’s degree in Creative Arts (Drama/ Music/ Movement Studies/ Film Studies, etc.) and/or IsiZulu Education on NQF Level 9 (contract appointment: 5 years during which a PhD in Creative Arts (Drama/ Music/ Movement Studies/ Film Studies, etc.) and/or IsiZulu Education on NQF Level10 MUST be obtained to be converted into a permanent position).
    •    A Bachelor`s degree with Creative Arts and IsiZulu as majors. 
    •    Proven experience in the presentation of papers/posters at national scholarly conferences. 
    •    Provide evidence of manuscripts produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication, ideally in an accredited journal.
    •    A minimum of five years teaching experience in a schooling context or three-years teaching experience in a higher education context.
    •    A relevant teaching qualification.
    •    A good academic record.

    Recommendations:

    •    Proven research record of relevant publications in national accredited journals.
    •    Evidence of previous involvement in engaged scholarship.
    •    Experience in postgraduate supervision.

    Intern: Academic Staff and Leadership Development (40 hours per week)(contract appointment: 1 year): Blended Learning Innovation and Support Services - 2 positions

    Duties and responsibilities:

    •    Provide administrative and logistical support in the planning, preparation and implementation of events in the Academic Staff and Leadership Development team(ASLD).
    •    Assist in the collection and capturing of academic staff attendance data.

    • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Foundation Phase and/or ECD mainly and general education modules.
    • Participate in the work integrated learning programme of the Faculty (teaching practice).
    • Ensure active involvement in research activities of the Faculty.
    • Contribute to curriculum development in the field of Foundation Phase and/or ECD specifically.

    • Contribute to leadership and administrative tasks related to the Faculty.

     
    Inherent Job Requirements:

    • A relevant PhD on NQF level 10 with Early Childhood Development and/or Foundation Phase as the focus of specialisation (For a permanent appointment)

    or

    • A relevant Master’s degree on NQF level 9 with Early Childhood Development and/or Foundation Phase as the focus of specialisation (contract appointment: 5 years during which a PhD on NQF level 10 must be obtained in order to be converted into a permanent appointment. Candidates must submit proof of registration for a PhD in ECD and/or Foundation Phase.
    • Candidates should submit an abstract of their thesis or dissertation to indicate relevance to the teaching, learning and assessment at either ECD and/or Foundation Phase.
    • A formal teaching qualification (e.g., Diploma in Education or Bachelor of Education degree or equivalent) with ECD and/or Foundation Phase as major(s).
    • A minimum of three (3) year’s relevant teaching experience in a school context or a minimum of one (1) year relevant teaching experience in a higher education environment.
    • Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentation at academic conferences or equivalent.
    • Provide evidence of manuscript (s) produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication, ideally in an accredited journal.

     
    Recommendations:

    • A relevant doctoral degree with a focus on the teaching, learning and/or assessment of ECD and/or Foundation Phase.
    • Proven research record of relevant publications in national or international accredited journals,
    • Member of national or international accredited journals.
    • Experience in postgraduate supervision.
