    Casualty Facultative Underwriter

    Job Description

    About The Role

    A multinational reinsurer based in Jozi is looking for a Casualty Facultative Underwriter with a minimum of 5 years underwriting experience. The incumbent will be responsible to acquire, assess, underwrite, quote and negotiate proportional and non-proportional facultative reinsurance directly and through brokers.

    Minimum Requirements

    • University degree in law-related discipline, mathematics/statistics, economics or degree with a recognised governing body of insurance qualifications (ACII/FCII)
    • Minimum 5 years underwriting experience, in-depth knowledge of reinsurance and primary insurance in all Casualty classes of business (PA, Motor and Liabilities)
    • Strong analytical and mathematical skills
    • Good communication skills, strong interpersonal skills and willingness to share knowledge within the team
    • High level of commitment and ability to work under pressure
    • Willingness to travel
    • IT application knowledge

    Job Description

    • To acquire, assess, underwrite, quote and negotiate proportional and non-proportional facultative reinsurance directly and through brokers. Predominantly rating motor and specialised liability business by utilising the various in-house company quotation and local monitoring tools
    • To provide tailor made solutions and ensure a profitable portfolio
    • To check contract wordings and conditions according to company underwriting guidelines
    • To cultivate relationships with cedents and brokers for business development purposes and exploit new business potential through these sources
    • To participate in working groups in the insurance industry (e.g. SAIA) and within the company group (e.g. expert groups)
    • To contribute to market events (e.g. through lectures)
    • To conduct market and portfolio analyses, and prepare reports

    A multinational short-term insurance company based in Jozi is looking for a senior facultative underwriter with a minimum of 5 years professional experience in facultative property (Re) Insurance. The incumbent will be responsible for underwriting of facultative property business.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Business degree and/or suitable insurance qualifications such as ACII/AIISA
    • Minimum of 5 years professional experience in Facultative Property (Re) Insurance.
    • Capabilities and passion to actively conduct and solicit business opportunities.
    • Good IT and analytical skills.
    • Conscientious business acumen, creativity.
    • Good communication, negotiation and presentation skills.
    • Entrepreneurial mind set with a passion for conducting business in Sub Sahara Africa.

    Job Description

    • Underwriting of facultative property business, including assessing the risks, evaluating and providing reinsurance terms and conditions, in accordance with the applicable underwriting authority, underwriting guidelines, internal directives, targets and client strategies.
    • Developing and growing a sustainable book of business and exploiting new business potentials through active development of relationships vis-a-vis clients and brokers.
    • Developing innovative insurance solutions and products in addition to conventional covers in close cooperation with other business units.
    • Providing expert advice to Regional Treaty Underwriters.
    • Organizing and conducting seminars/workshops for clients and internal staff, providing clients with value-added services.
    • Organizing and conducting surveys of large/complex property risks for clients, including preparing internal and external reports (if required).
    • Evaluating special treaty acceptance requests by cedants for treaty team from a technical point of view.
    • Executing portfolio performance and market analysis.
    • Maintaining and expanding technical and market know-how.
